Fonds consists of photographs by Helen Alexander documenting Vancouver's "Walks for Peace" (also called "Peace Walks" and "Peace Marches") of 1986, 1987 and 1989. The 1986 photographs show the participants gathering at B.C. Place Stadium and the rally at Sunset Beach (including a view from the Burrard Street Bridge). The 1987 photographs show the crowd gathering at Kitsilano Beach (including a closeup of a group of individuals with "Veterans Against Nuclear Arms"). The 1989 photographs show the "End the Arms Race" banner at the front of the parade (on Cornwall Avenue at Cypress Street), and show the following organizational banners among crowds: "Veterans Against Nuclear Arms", "Esperanto por paco: world language for peace", "Christ Church Cathedral", "Shaughnessy Heights United [Church]", "Greenpeace", "Association of United Ukrainian Canadians", "Workers Benevolent Association", "South Surrey White Rock Peace Education Group", "Quakers", "The Vancouver Folk Song Society", "Students Peace Activist Movement", and numerous others. Collection consists of two videos and associated papers of C.P.R. Locomotive 374, which pulled the first transcontinental passenger train into Vancouver on May 23, 1887. The Great Barrier video was filmed at Three-Valley Gap in 1937 to commemorate the 50th. anniversary of the arrival of the locomotive in Vancouver. The video 374, Hail the Conquering Hero, created in the late 1980s, documents the restoration of the locomotive and the community's involvement and attitudes towards it.

The collection consists of two scrapbooks entitled "Mark Twain's Adhesive Scrap Book" patented 1873. Both volumes consist of newspaper cuttings from the Victoria newspapers. They are mainly concerned with political disputes and actions relating to land, finance, railways and labour. Many "Letters to the Editor" are included, also long passages quoting speeches from meetings in the House (B.C.) and other places. It is as if Robert Beaven, the collector of these clippings, were keeping a close watch on what the politicians of his day were thinking and doing, also the public as revealed by Letters to the Editor. Some of the matters discussed include The Chinese (in U.S.A., B.C. and Australia), School Costs (not Vancouver), Burrard Inlet and Queen of Vancouver Island.
