Scope and content
Fonds consists of photographs by Helen Alexander documenting Vancouver's "Walks for Peace" (also called "Peace Walks" and "Peace Marches") of 1986, 1987 and 1989. The 1986 photographs show the participants gathering at B.C. Place Stadium and the rally at Sunset Beach (including a view from the Burrard Street Bridge). The 1987 photographs show the crowd gathering at Kitsilano Beach (including a closeup of a group of individuals with "Veterans Against Nuclear Arms"). The 1989 photographs show the "End the Arms Race" banner at the front of the parade (on Cornwall Avenue at Cypress Street), and show the following organizational banners among crowds: "Veterans Against Nuclear Arms", "Esperanto por paco: world language for peace", "Christ Church Cathedral", "Shaughnessy Heights United [Church]", "Greenpeace", "Association of United Ukrainian Canadians", "Workers Benevolent Association", "South Surrey White Rock Peace Education Group", "Quakers", "The Vancouver Folk Song Society", "Students Peace Activist Movement", and numerous others. Fonds also includes two 1988 Remembrance Day photographs showing veterans showing Norman Hoye (former Air Force Colonel) and Thomas Dryden Stewart (Army Sergeant), among others.
