History resources subject files

Subseries consists of research material gathered for the purpose of writing the book: "The Story of Dunbar: Voices of a Vancouver Neighbourhood." The research material was kept by the creators according to subject matter. Some files are marked according to which chapter the material might be useful for. Subseries includes copies of original sources, pamphlets, chronology lists, maps, researcher notes and correspondence. The research for chapter 10, Neighbourhood churches, includes material about ten churches.

Housekeeping subject files

Subseries consists of files created or received by the Administration Division (file blocks 100-183), Finance Division (file blocks 300-471) and Personnel Division (file blocks 500-551). Some of the files include reports circulated at Board meetings.

Housing

Subseries consists of records documenting policy development, regulation, and funding of the non-commercial housing sector (subsidized and special needs housing), as well as the regulation of unusual housing (e.g. live-aboards, strata title development, etc.) and rental controls, as the foregoing came before City Council for decision-making. Subseries divided into the following filing system subdivisions:
Housing ("policy and procedure", "general", etc.);
Legislation / building regulations;
Residential funding;
Residential housing; and
Transient accommodation.
Arranged by file title and therein by start year.

Hoy Yin Association records

Subseries consists of records relating to the functions of the Hoy Yin Association, a benevolent association that was active in Vancouver in the 20th century and that appears to have ceased its operations in the 1970s. The subseries includes records of donations, Association elections, and Association membership; publications of other benevolent associations and community organizations; personal correspondence and photographs sent to or from various men living in Vancouver, who may have been members of the Hoy Yin Association, and their families, friends, and associates; and two C.I.36 certificates.

Incoming correspondence (additional)

Subseries consists of correspondence which was found subsequent to the processing of the incoming correspondence subseries. Arranged chronologically (alphabetically by author for all undated correspondence).

Incoming correspondence photographs

Subseries consists of photographs removed from J.S. Matthews' incoming correspondence file and previously uncatalogued lantern slides and oversized prints included in Add. MSS. 54. The subjects of the images are wide ranging and include early scenes within and outside Vancouver, pioneers, community leaders and activities, business and industry, government, social and family activities, celebrations, military and any topic the correspondent wished to convey to Matthews.

Information and Advertising Department records

The subseries consists of records created and received by the Information and Advertising Department of the P.N.E. Records include correspondence, reports, press releases, bulletins, subject files, and other materials. Records relate to: general fair advertising, advertising for special events, a proposed multiplex building on P.N.E. grounds, and other issues.

Insurance appraisals and property assessments

Subseries consists of records documenting insurance coverage for the various properties owned by BC Sugar and its subsidiaries.

The subseries is made up of property appraisals for replacement values (often referred to as an Appraisement) of the plant and equipment of the processing plants operated by BC Sugar and its subsidiaries. The assessments were compiled by a variety of professional appraisal firms on a periodic basis. The subseries also includes copies of Indistrial Assessment Schedules of the BC Sugar site in Vancouver prepared by the BC Assessment Authority.

Interview tapes

Subseries consists of the audio recordings of the interviews conducted as part of the research for the book, "The Story of Dunbar: Voices of a Vancouver neighbourhood." Tapes are named according to the last name of the interviewee or the event that was recorded. Please see the Interview worksheets and transcriptions subseries for related materials.

Interview worksheets and transcriptions

Subseries consists of the interviewer worksheets, correspondence, any transcriptions of interviews that were completed, and other notes, including descriptions of photographs leant to the Dunbar History Project for copying. Some files contain obituary notices; the majority of these were printed in 2009 and added to folders. Folders are organized alphabetically according to last name of the interviewee or correspondent. Paper files for group interviews and sound recordings of other events are included in this subseries following the alphabetical name listings. Please see Interview tapes subseries for audio tapes of the interviews for most, but not all, of the interviews.

Invitation cards

This subseries contains invitation cards which are addressed exclusively to Kew Dang and his family for such occasions as wedding celebrations and new baby's one month celebration ceremony.

Invitations

The invitations in this subseries were received by Woodside both in his capacity as alderman and later as a prominent public figure. They range from invitations to community events to state dinners, such as the Civic Luncheon given by City Council for H.R.H. The Prince of Wales, 1919.

Invoices, early Vancouver

Subseries consists of records relating to the financial aspect of materiel and personnel management for the City of Vancouver. Includes invoices for supplies and services, some of which relate to the city's first election.

IOC

Subseries contains records relating to BidCorp's interaction with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Records include correspondence, contracts, reports, memorandums, conference materials, and agendas.

James Blomfield files and other materials

Subseries consists of files of clippings, photographs, research notes and correspondence related to James Blomfield. Subseries includes collected correspondence sent and received by James Blomfield, including extensive correspondence with Ida Schneider.

J.R.V. Dunlop journals

Subseries consists of journals maintained by J.R.V. Dunlop, Secretary-Treasurer for the Cariboo Gold Quartz Mining Company. Journal entries include: lists of meetings; notes regarding financial transactions, personal activities, transactions and communications with mine personnel; notes regarding the weather; and various notes regarding daily activities.

LegaciesNow

Subseries contains records relating to public relations and communications support for LegaciesNow program initiatives and announcements.

Records include correspondence, reports, and brochures.

Legal matters records

Subseries contains records related to the management and administration of VANOC's legal affairs, including management of contracts and agreements, administration, licensing and enforcement of intellectual property rights associated with the Olympics, legacy matters related to the Vancouver 2010 Bid Corporation and incorporation of VANOC, and litigation. Subseries also includes records related to the governance of VANOC, including the meetings of the Board of Directors and various sub-committees.

Legislated Program Area (Environmental Health) files

Subseries contains records pertaining to services provided in compliance with provincial health legislation, including health inspections, community care facilities licensing, communicable disease control, pollution control and other community and environmental health services.

Licensing program files

Subseries consists of correspondence, reports, proposals, agreements and other records relating to the Vancouver Centennial Commission's Licensing Program. Subseries is arranged into one filing block: Licensing Program.

Look and Creative Services records

Subseries contains records documenting the development and management of VANOC's visual image and identity as represented in images, logos, pictograms, mascots and other visual symbols associated with the Games. Includes records related to the development of the overall "look" of the Games, conduct of design competitions, and development of Olympic and Paralympic emblems and mascots.

Management Committee minutes

Subseries consists of records arising from meetings of the Management Committee of the Vancouver Museums and Planetarium Association.
Subseries includes minutes and agendas, as well as memoranda, budgets, performance appraisal forms, a collective bargaining report, a Workers' Compensation Board inspection report, and other records.

Manitoba Sugar Co. Ltd. construction and maintenance records

Sub-series consists of architectural drawings and one map documenting the construction of the Manitoba Sugar Refinery Ltd. refinery at Fort Garry, Manitoba in 1941, and subsequent maintenance to the plant.

Records include elevations, floor plans, and sections of the following buildings: Scale House, Beet Pulp Warehouse, Office Building, Storage Building, Boiler House, Dryer Building, Power House, Sugar Storage Building, and Manufacturing Building. The map is a plan of the refinery site.

Manitoba Sugar Company

Marketing and sales records

Subseries contains records documenting VANOC's marketing, sponsorship and sales activities, including general marketing, use of mascots in association with advertising and sponsorship, provision of services to sponsors, communication of rights and benefits to licensed suppliers. A substantial portion of the records relate to brand protection - efforts by VANOC to prevent unauthorized use of VANOC emblems, imagery and trademarks, and to thwart so-called "ambush marketing" by businesses not officially associated with the Games.

Subseries contains a chronological file of correspondence and other items associated with Council "in camera" meetings.

Meetings

Subseries consists of agendas and minutes of meetings of senior staff of the department and a number of committees, boards and other bodies, both within and outside of the Fire Department.

Membership case files

Subseries consists of records documenting application for and approval of membership in the Association.

The subseries contains case files of received and/or approved applications for various categories of membership, often with supporting documentation including: copies of supporting primary documents to demonstrate unbroken lineage from a Loyalist ancestor, copies of awarded certificates (if applicable), and in some cases associated correspondence.

Series includes microfiche copies of plans, maps and other records for the following local areas: Hastings-Sunrise, Kensington Cedar Cottage, Kerrisdale, Killarney, Kitsilano, Marpole, Mount Pleasant, Oakridge, Renfrew Collingwood, Riley Park, Shaughnessy, South Cambie, Sunset, Victoria-Fraserview, and West End.
