Skills : a controlled drinking program

Item is a video of an informational program on "Skills," a controlled drinking program offered by the Vancouver Health Department, featuring Doug Adams (Coordinator of the Skills Drinking Program), and counselors Elise Donpierre, Liz Cameron, Sally Hearst, Terry Sloss, and Donna Taylor. The Skills program was developed by the Vancouver Health Department and the University of British Columbia to respond to people for whom drinking is a problem, but not yet so out of hand that abstinence is the only solution. After its development, the Skills program was placed under the Adult Preventative Programs at the Burrard Health Unit. In the video, the Skills program is explained in detail, and the counselors roleplay examples of appropriate and inappropriate prospective clients approaching the program, as well as a screening session prior to admission to the program. The video closes with Doug Adams speaking about the success of the program.

Sky hawks [tape # 19]

Item is raw footage shot for a one hour television network documentary featuring Canada's Military parachute team, the Sky hawks. Pilot Captain Marc Roberts delivers various takes of an anti-drug message in both English and French. Includes footage of the Sky hawks team members interacting with the public, as well as several takes of a group anti-drug message delivered in both English and French, footage ends with team members sleeping on the airplane.

Footage includes an interview with Marc about designing the Sky hawks show, the Sky hawks team members walking in a field with their parachutes in hand after landing - this is part of an anti-drug advertisement, recorded in both English and French, Sky hawks team members in a shopping mall [the Rutherford Mall in Naniamo, BC] interacting with the public and packing parachutes prior to a weekend show, and bars with ambient mall noise. Item is raw footage shot for a one hour television network documentary featuring Canada's military parachute team, the Sky hawks. Includes footage of the Sunchild O'Chises School sign, the Sky hawk team entering the school with an RCMP Officer, a few spectators watch, in the school gym the Sky hawks talk to school children and show them an anti-drugs video, after the video the Sky hawks demonstrate how the parachutes work and interact with the children in smaller groups, an interview with Captain Mark A. regarding the qualities necessary to be a part of the Sky hawks team, public relations is an important factor, Mark also talks about the Sky hawks performance schedule, in the background Sky hawks team members are loading an airplane, tape ends with close-up shots of the men loading the airplane. Item is an audio tape containing a recording of the second half of Sunday Magazine, a radio phone-in talk show. E. Jane Rittenhouse is guest on the talk show hosted by Rod Booth. She answers calls about the drug/alcohol/addiction/mental health issues in Vancouver. Rittenhouse talks about the legalization of marijuana. Recording includes some advertisements.
