Biographical history
Mercer and Mercer Architects was formed in 1940 by Andrew Lamb Mercer and his son John ("Jack") Mercer. Previously, Andrew Lamb Mercer had been a partner in the firm Gardiner and Mercer, a firm which operated from 1912 to 1940. Mercer remained active in architecture until his death on February 28, 1959, and Jack Mercer continued his father's business before selling it in 1970.

Fonds contains photographs and drawings of buildings designed by Mercer & Mercer Architects as well as a certificate of registration for Andrew Lamb Mercer from the Architectural Institute of British Columbia.
Also included in the fonds are photographs from six albums showing buildings of various clientele of Mercer & Mercer Architects as well as projects by the predecessor firm, Gardiner and Mercer. Sites include breweries, hospitals, schools, fire halls, banks and other businesses primarily located in Vancouver but also other parts of the province.

Presented in 2003 by Darlene and Jeffrey Mercer of Pitt Meadows, B.C. Jeffrey Mercer is the grandson of Andrew Lamb Mercer.

The six photograph albums were provided to the Archives on copy-loan. Digital reproductions were made and the albums were returned to the donor.
