Scrapbooks

Subseries consists of four scrapbooks containing newspaper clippings pertaining to the activities of the Vancouver Centennial Commission and the various events and projects that took place as part of the Centennial celebrations. Includes special Centennial editions published by local newspapers. Scrapbooks cover the period of 1981 to March 1987.

Script reports - alphabetical

This subseries does not contain scripts, but consists of script reports with names of authors, titles of plays, dates, signed comments by readers, and recommendations for further action by The New Play Centre. The subseries is arranged alphabetically by names of playwrights and subjects.

Security services records

Subseries contains records documenting the coordination of security, protection, disaster management and emergency medical services prior to and during the games. Records include communications with the RCMP Integrated Security Unit, strategic planning for public safety, and general information about venue and facility security.

Sister city program files

Subseries consists of correspondence and promotional and other material relating to Sister City programs with Edinburgh, Odessa, Los Angeles, Guangzhou, and Yokohama. Includes records pertaining to various events put on by Yokohama in Vancouver for the Centennial, including children's programs, kabuki performances, displays and events at Oakridge Mall, Yokohama Day at Expo '86, and Yokohama Festival.

Smoking prevention and cessation files

Subseries contains records pertaining to amendments to health by-laws concerning smoking in the workplace and public buildings. Subseries also includes records pertaining to smoking prevention and cessation programs delivered by the department.

[Social service grants data cards]

Subseries consists of information cards about organizations receiving grants. The information on the cards includes the name of the organization, its address and contact person, and a box containing recommended and issued grant amounts for several consecutive years. Arranged, in principle, according to 'the last year in which a grant was received', however, the principle does not prevail throughout the subseries.

Speakers and Events

Subseries contains records relating to speakers programs tailored to key audiences.

Records include correspondence, memorandums, reports, work plans, minutes, presentations, media guides, promotional materials, and agendas.

Special Committee papers

Subseries contains papers on Arbutus and 25th shopping centre, Centennial Project and Gastown/Chinatown development correspondence. Arranged alphabetically.

Special events files

Subseries consists of textual and graphic material relating to the research, planning and execution of various Centennial events and programs. Includes records relating to April 6th 1986, the Historic Plaque Program, New Years Eve 1985, Peace Festival and Symposium, re-enactment of the first Council meeting, Vancouver Day, Coeverden visitors, Canada Day, Sea Festival, Labour Festival, Futures Conference, Grey Cup '86, Expo '86, Castle Vancouver, and the Mayor Gift Program.
Subseries is arranged into the following six filing blocks: Special events - Planning and research; Special events; April 6, 1986; Expo '86; Castle Vancouver project; and Mayors Gift Program (Federal Express project).

Special projects

Subseries consists of minutes, correspondence, lists, reference materials, evaluations, publicity materials, etc. pertaining to special projects or other organizations or events in which the council participated. Subseries includes a number of records pertaining to the 1986 World Conference on Arts, Politics and Business, in which the Community Arts Council was a participant.

Sport Centres and Athlete Development

Subseries contains records relating to BidCorp's efforts to obtain direct funding for the development of municipal, regional, and national sports centres. Records also concern other funding initiatives launched to support the development of athletes at various ages and skill levels.

Records include news releases, work plans, minutes, memorandums, correspondence, reports, agendas, and presentations.

Sport competition records

Subseries contains records documenting sport and athlete development, and competition management. Records consist primarily of correspondence with and reports to/from numerous Canadian sporting organization regarding the development of Canadian athletes, and communications with international sporting federations regarding the conduct of competitions of their respective sports. Does not include records about specific competition schedules or results.

Sports program files

Subseries consists of correspondence, reports, application forms and proposals, publications, press releases and other promotional material, photographs, contracts, and financial and other records pertaining to sports programs endorsed by the Vancouver Centennial Commission. Included are records concerning the Sports Program Committee and the YMCA Centennial Committee. Series also includes several files containg correspondence and promotional and other material produced for the SunLifestyle program.
Subseries is arranged into the following two filing blocks: Sports program - general and Sunlifestyle Program.

Subseries contains records relating to the organization's interactions with stakeholders.

Records include correspondence, memorandums, reports, work plans, presentations, and RFPs.

Streets, transportation and utilities

Subseries consists of Council reports and other records relating to the following Engineering Department functions: street and highway planning, building and maintenance; traffic engineering (including the planning and street building that went into Skytrain station areas); public transportation planning and monitoring (buses, Seabus, Skytrain, West Coast Express, bicycle transportation, etc.); street naming; local improvements planning and execution; and sewer and water system planning, construction and maintenance. Subseries is divided into the following filing system subdivisions (which are further subdivided):

Mass transit (category used to 1981 only, thereafter
files called "Transit (except LRT)");

Pedestrian matters;

Subject files

These records are files compiled by Woodside in his capacity as chairman of the Bridges and Railways Committee and as alderman. The material in the Bridges and Railways Committee files contains information on the construction of the Georgia Viaduct, the Main Street bridge, False Creek seawall and North Vancouver ferry subway. Later records also deal with grain elevators and the United Farmers of Alberta. Files on the Hastings Townsite annexation and the site investigation for the Vancouver airport include correspondence and notes typed by Woodside in order to record the chronology of the events.

Subseries includes correspondence, reports, memos, briefs, notices and minutes of meetings relating to Pendakur's career as alderman. Many files highlight his special areas of interest including the waterfront, transportation, False Creek, Gastown, human rights and the P.N.E. Arranged alphabetically.

Subseries consists of records of Major Matthews' public life. Subjects comprise Matthews' business and public endeavors, such as the Lord Stanley Statue, portraits and memorials of family members and historical figures, property donated to the public, and the City Archives of Vancouver. Includes correspondence to public or private figures associated with Matthews' business matters and photographs of public subjects.

These files include such items as inter-office memos, reports and briefs from City departments and community groups, copies of letters by Harcourt and others, agendas and minutes of meetings from Council committees and various community committees, handwritten notes, petitions, and supporting material for Council discussions. Some of the documents are underlined or annotated. When they were received, the subject files were in roughly alphabetical order by file title. The small discrepancies from alphabetical order were then corrected.

This subseries includes subject files used both in Ford's administration of City matters and Greater Vancouver Regional District affairs. Due to the voluminous nature of the series, the records have been appraised at the item level. Earlier files, created between the 1970's and 1980's were transferred by Marguerite Ford when clearing her office after her defeat in the civic election of 1986 and should be read in context with the earlier access of the records. Arranged alphabetically by file title and chronologically within each file.

Subseries consists of files compiled by Archibald on various subjects, as well as notes and newspaper clippings on various topics. Subjects include general topics such as coal and the environment, as well as specific individuals, organizations, projects, and locations (such as Cominco, Kemano, the National Harbours Board, the Pacific Great Eastern Railway Company, and others).

Survey 1 - buildings

Subseries consists of 75 rolls of film, arranged by roll number; a contact print of each roll; and the photographer's list of images for each roll.

Sustainability, inclusivity and aboriginal participation records

Subseries contains records documenting VANOC activities related to fostering environmental sustainability, incorporating concerns of the Downtown East-side into Games planning, and facilitating aboriginal participation in Games events and activites (does not include records related to participation of the four host first-nations: Lil'wat, Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh [Burrard], and Squamish)

Swimming pools

Subseries is divided into two categories: correspondence, plans and reports pertaining to specific swimming pools; and correspondence regulations and reports pertaining to swimming pools in general.

Taber factory operational records

Sub-series consists of records documenting the operations of the sugar beet refinery at Taber, Alberta, and operational reporting of activities to the BC Sugar head office.

The records in the sub-series are predominantly operational reviews which reported agricultural and refining activities to the BC Sugar head office.

Taber factory records

Sub-series consists of records documenting BC Sugar's involvement in overseeing the physical plant of the Canadian Sugar Factories sugar beet refinery in Taber, Alberta.

The records consist of photographs depicting a review of the site before construction, and photographs documenting the construction of the refinery from 1947 to 1950, as well as subsequent site visits at the plant and renovation projects.

Technology Plan

Subseries contains records relating to the development of a technology plan and delivery model for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Records include correspondence, memorandums, reports, and work plans.
