Administrative history
The Community Arts Council of Vancouver was established as a result of a cultural survey sponsored in 1945 by the Junior League organization in Vancouver. It was regarded as a coordinating council for the arts when launched in 1946, whose objective was to increase and broaden the opportunities for Vancouver citizens to enjoy and participate in cultural activities.

The fonds consists of the records pertaining to a consultation visit to the Community Arts Council (the Comer Report), 1949; constitution and by-laws; minutes and reports; correspondence, financial and fundraising documents; program and exhibition files; and photographs, publications, scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, newsletters, promotional materials and similar items.

The fonds is arranged into four series: Administration files, Program files, Photographs, and Ephemeral Materials. Administration and Program files are further arranged into subseries.
