Biographical history
The Sunset Community Association, which grew out of the South Main Community Club, was founded in 1945 to build the Sunset Community Centre in South Vancouver as a war memorial. A major part of the funds needed were raised by a benefit concert given by Bing Crosby in September 1948 and by public appeals related to this concert. Since its opening in 1950 the Centre has served as a venue for many South Vancouver community events.
