Film transfer from 16mm to one inch master tape, transferred Nov. 22, 1984. "The Gift of Water" won two awards at the Canadian Film and Television Association Awards in 1975: Best Nature and Wildlife Film, and Best Cinematography.

The gift of water

Film was produced to both inform and delight; portraying a message of environmental conservation and showing off the beauty of the province.
"The gift of water" was produced and directed by Mike Collier and Bob Rodvik. Photography by Mike Collier and Bob Rodvik. Music by Ian Berry and Don Granbery. Edited by Mike Collier. Produced by New Horizon Film Productions (1975). Film features images of nature, wildlife, and people interacting with and enjoying nature. There is no narration. Soundtrack consists of music and songs in appreciation of nature. Some scenes of the West Coast Trail.
"The gift of water" won two awards at the Canadian Film and Television Association Awards in 1975: Best Nature and Wildlife Film as well as Best Cinematography.

The Empress of Asia

Item is an amateur film which captures the ocean liner RMS Empress of Asia as workers on scaffolding use brushes attached to long poles to apply BAPCO anti-corrosive second coat paint to the hull of the large ship. Multiple angles reveal features of the dry-docked ship typically obscured by water, including the ship's propellers and depth markers on the hull.

The Curse of the Lost [Gold] Mine - tape 9 ; Library

Scenes of three people [including Dick Hamilton who is involved in both the 1970s and 1990s efforts to make this film] hiking through beautiful nature areas and setting up camp. The men look at a map together, cook food, explore a cave, and spend some time hiking on a glacier and exploring formations and cracks.

Item is camera original raw footage for "Curse of the lost gold mine." Includes the continuation of the interview with Wilf Paulick and Don Lindrum from MI-476 as well as another interview. The second interview is with Ian Whiticker [a historian, or literature expert who studies myths and legends] who talks about stories in general and how this one about the cursed lost gold mine fits a certain type - and the fact that people just do create stories and folklore building on a small truth and creating a legend. Whiticker is encouraged to draw connections between this story of Slumach's lost gold mine to the hype of the Klondike gold rush, Egyptian curses on treasures, and Jack the Ripper.

The gentlemen are named Wilf Paulick and Don Lindrum, they talk about a mutual friend, Martin Swicker, who also explored the Pitt Lake area, and had a story about finding and then loosing gold. They also talk about the gold mine and Slumach's curse and Martin's relationship with the mine.

Item is the D-2 Master cassette version of "Curse of the lost gold mine." A documentary-style show that features dramatized re-enactments of actual historical events. The narrative combines a current expedition into the Pitt Lake area to search for the mine and evidence of other prospectors with an actor [Donnelly Rhodes] playing an old prospector telling tales and legends, the story is filled out with dramatizations and interviews. Final four minutes are silent after tone.

The bridge of five thousand miles

Item is a video photo montage ‘walking tour’ of the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden, narrated by Mary White. The film discusses the history of Chinese gardens and the history of the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen garden, including a discussion of the construction materials and techniques, and the artisans who built it. Different architectural elements of the garden are considered, and their function and meaning discussed. The philosophical elements of garden construction as an art form are discussed throughout.

The segment features interviewer Stuart McNish interviewing Janice Clarfield, the Executive Director of the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden. Subjects discussed include a brief history of the garden, the building of the garden, where the materials and artisans came from, and the purpose of a garden of this nature. Footage of the garden is used to prompt a discussion of various features, including the use of colour in the garden, the main elements of the garden, specific elements such as the roofing tiles, drip tiles, curved eves, paving stones, Lake Tai stones, the different ways to view the garden, the symbolism of garden elements, and the role of the garden wall. The interview concludes with a discussion about outreach activities and volunteer opportunities.

Swimming pool construction and railway construction camp

Item is an amateur film containing footage of the construction of a swimming pool at the Magoffin’s residence, Rockhaven, at 3612 Marine Drive, West Vancouver, and Sam and Margaret Magoffin swimming in the pool with friends. The film also shows Margaret standing in front of Rockhaven. The film then cuts to footage of a sign reading “Multnomah” and then to a street scene in an unidentified city showing cars and people and a group of young boys looking up at the camera. Also included is footage of three men standing near some bunkhouses in a desert-like environment, perhaps near Magoffin’s Lyon Creek project, as well as some track and the outside of a tunnel and equipment. The film finishes with a view of a railway trestle and track and one man sitting in a car and one man standing next to the car, in what appears to be the same location.

The footage shows Crane and Weese talking to each other at False Creek, a backyard and in Beacon Hill Park at the Gay and Lesbian Pride Picnic with Karen Bitz. They take turns filming. Crane's mother and brother Alan Crane are interviewed in a back yard. There is footage from a trip to Salt Spring Island including Ganges Public Harbour, Brian Forester's workshop and home, the Salt Spring coastline and BC Ferries. The 1991 and 1992 Pride Parades are shown and the footage includes speeches given both years at Sunset Beach by Malcolm Crane.
