Biographical history
Bertram Arnold Emery (1893-1977) was born in Victoria where he worked as a pharmacist until 1918, at which time he joined the RAF (Canada). Between 1920 and 1924 he operated a drugstore on Mayne Island. In 1924 he moved to Vancouver, working first with the Vancouver Drug Company, and in 1937 opening his Vest Pocket Drug Store. Emery was active in community work in Kitsilano and served as a Parks Commissioner from 1946 to 1949. He served as an Alderman from 1960 to 1965.

The fonds consists of personal papers, 1897-1971; pharmaceutical items; narcotics registers, 1937-1971; references to community, especially Kitsilano, business, 1935-1969; photographs of interiors and exteriors of drugstores in Vancouver and Victoria, scenery in Stanley Park, and various civic-related events, including Kitsilano Days; texts of C-FUN City Hall reports, 1963-1965; records pertaining to Park Board activities, 1948-1950, 1962 1964; City Council minutes, correspondence, special references, 1960-1965. The records have been arranged into two subseries: Private papers and Civic papers.
