History

Rebecca Watson was born in Vancouver, and after teacher training she taught for one year in the Cariboo. She returned to Vancouver to train as a nurse at the Vancouver General Hospital, graduating in 1932. In 1958 she became well known for her participation in the Save Our Parklands Association to protect the old Shaughnessy golf course from redevelopment. She was elected to the Park Board in 1968, and was an active member of the Vancouver Resources Board. Watson was an executive member of The Electors Action Movement (TEAM), and was president of the Progressive Conservative Party of British Columbia in 1971. She served on the West End Community Resources Board and the Community Association. In recognition of her many civic activities, the City of Vancouver entered her name in the Civic Merit Board of Honour. She died in April 1976.
