Municipal election results attributes

  • Candidate Name: Name of candidates listed in the format of last name and first name
  • Mayor: the elected head of a city, town, or other municipality
  • Councillor: An elected official on a municipal council
  • Park Commissioner: An elected official on a park board
  • School Trustee: An elected official on the board of education for a school district.
  • EO: Elector Organization. Here are some examples of acronyms used in 2014 election, listed alphabetically:
      • CED: Cedar Party
      • COPE: Coalition of Progressive Electors
      • GRN: Green Party of Vancouver
      • HWU: Hotel Workers United
      • IDEA: Independent Democratic Electoral Alliance
      • NPA: Non Partisan Association
      • OCV: One City Vancouver
      • PEP: Public Education Pro
      • STO: Stop Party
      • CV1: Vancouver 1st
      • VV: Vision Vancouver
  • Vote For: Number of positions to fill for a race and the maximum number of votes allowed for that race; any votes above or below that number would be denoted as “over voted” or “under voted” respectively
  • Ballots Cast: Number of individual ballots counted by the ballot tabulating unit(s)
  • Counted Votes: Number of valid ballot markings counted. Calculates as Times Counted less Times Over Voted and Number of Under Votes
  • Ballots Cast - Blank: Number of ballots with no vote selection
  • Voting Division: Assigned value to identify voting area
    Note:
      • Prior to the 2014 municipal election, the City was divided into Voting Divisions and voters were required to vote at a designated Voting Place within their assigned Voting Division
      • Division boundaries change from election to election and are not directly comparable over time
      • In 2014, voters could vote at any Voting Place within the city of Vancouver, eliminating the need for Voting Divisions
  • Voting Place: Locations used for the City’s municipal election during Advance Voting, Special Voting and Mail, as well as General Voting Day
    Note:
      • Voting locations change from election to election and are not directly comparable over time.
  • Registered Voters: Total number of registered voters as of General Voting Day
  • Times Counted: Number of times a vote was counted for the specified candidate or question. This includes Times Over Voted and Number of Under Votes
  • Times Over Voted: Number of times a ballot has more than the maximum number of selections allowed; over votes for a given race are not counted against that race’s results
  • Number of Under Votes: Number of times a ballot has less than the minimum number of selection allowed for the election or when no selection was made; votes are counted against that race’s results
  • Mail: Ballot sent to an eligible mail ballot applicant by mail and received back in the Election Office by 8pm on General Election Day (see s.72 of the Vancouver Charter; s.4.0 of the City of Vancouver Election By-Law No. 9070)
  • SVO: Special Voting Opportunity - includes special voting opportunities for voters residing at eligible care home facilities and hospitals (see s.72 of the Vancouver Charter; s.3.4-3.8 of the City of Vancouver Election By-Law No. 9070.
  • UEL/UBC: University Endowment Lands (UEL) and University of British Columbia (UBC) campus residents are eligible to vote only for School Trustees at any Advance Voting Place or at either of the two UEL/UBC Voting Places on General Voting Day
  • ADV: Advance voting location; locations where voters can cast vote during advance voting period
