Biographical history

The United Services Institute was founded in 1908 as the United Services Club. The club became inactive during the years 1918-1921, but was re-organized as the Military Institute of Vancouver in 1921, which was later renamed the United Services Institute. According to its constitution, the goal of the Institute was "to promote a spirit of comradeship between the officers of the different units of the national defense forces of Canada and the Empire, to assist in the military education of the officers of the district, and to unite the officers of the past and present military units in a common purpose."
