Biographical history

The Strathcona Property Owners and Tenants Association was founded in 1968 by Strathcona residents to halt the urban renewal program then underway. After studies on the feasibility of residential rehabilitation, the "Strathcona Rehabilitation Project" was established in 1971 to construct new public works, roads and sidewalks as well as fund renovation of neighbourhood homes. SPOTA also undertook the development of new, non-profit "infill" housing for the neighbourhood through its housing arm, the Strathcona Area Housing Society.
