Biographical history
The Shannon Park Area Improvement Association was formed in the early 1940s by area homeowners to oppose the utilization of the vacant land opposite their residences for any purpose other than the estabishment of a community park. Subsequently, it lobbied for use of the park area as an ornamental neighbourhood park. There is no record of when or if the association ever disbanded. In 1977 a new group of neighbourhood residents banded together to oppose secondary schools' use of the park.
