Biographical history
Samuel Fitzof Hallander was born in Sweden in 1861. In 1880 he came around Cape Horn from Liverpool to Esquimalt, and in 1881 he came to Moodyville, where he worked for ten years in the Moodyville Mill as a mechanic and engineer. He died in July 1941.

The collection consists of a certificate of competency as fourth class engineer which was presented to Samuel Hallander in January 1889, signed by Charles H. Tupper, Minister of Marine and Fisheries.
