History

The Scottish Country Dance Society of BC was founded in 1930 under the leadership of Isabella [Ella] Bingham, who was both the president of the society and an instructor. As the Society grew they became formally affiliated with the parent Scottish Country Dance Society in Scotland. The Society underwent a name change in 1964 to Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS) Vancouver Branch. The RSCDS are dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Scotland's traditional country dances and their music. Since the formation of the RSCDS they have organized and facilitated meetings and events including dances, dinners, classes, camps, workshops and balls.
