History

Henry Painter was a native of Hanley, Staffordshire. In 1880 he emigrated to Winnipeg, where he sat on the jury which tried Louis Riel. He came to Vancouver in 1886 and joined the staff of the CPR Lands Department. In 1904 he joined the assessment department and was tax assessor for the City of Vancouver and district from 1907 to 1930.
