Highlights of 1938

Item is a videocassette transfer copy of a 1938 amateur motion picture film depicting a year retrospective for 1938 for the Adam family. The film depicts the family's new house (5689 Angus Drive, W. 40th Ave); travelled on the RMS Queen Mary from New York City to Southampton, England; prepared their yacht for the season; went on holiday to Qualicum Beach, Montague Harbour, and Deep Bay; moved into their new house; and had a baby.

The film also includes local events: construction of the Lion?s Gate Bridge; CPR pier D after being destroyed by fire; burning of a local ice and cold storage plant along with the efforts of firefighters to extinguish the blaze. Other locations visible in the film include Pier 54 in New York, Coal Harbour, the Marine Building and the Royal Bank Building in Vancouver.

London Paper Sold on Wall Street 2 Days After Publication

Item is a photograph of a newspaper vendor selling an "Evening Standard". Photograph is annotated " London Paper sold on Wall St., 2 days after publication, New York, N.Y.. For the first time in history the London Evening Standard is sold on Wall St., in the heart of New York's financial district, but two days after it first appeared for sale in London. A batch of the newspapers were part of the half-ton of cargo flown here aboard the Mercury, Imperial Airways pick-aback plane, which flew from Foynes, Ireland, to Port Washington, N.Y., in 25 hours and 7 minutes. This particular copy is a July 19th edition, and was on sale in Wall St., 7:p.m., July 21.

Seen enroute England to Vancouver April 1928

Item consists of a home movie documenting a journey from England to Vancouver. The route of travel was from Southampton, across the Atlantic to New York City, through northern Ontario and the town of White River, along Lake Superior, across the prairies, and finally through Fraser Canyon, BC. Each section is introduced and explained by title cards. The film includes shots of the RMS Homeric and the RMS Aquitania in Southampton port, the Statue of Liberty, the New York City skyline, landscape footage of Ontario, the prairies, Fraser Canyon, and the Cisco Bridges.

Item is an amateur film from the Scott family's trip to Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, and Washington, D.C.. Footage includes shots of a geyser at Yellowstone; Lower Falls; bears walking on a road; mountains; a marching band in a stadium; Margaret posing with the Scott family dog; the steeple of Trinity Church in New York; ice skating; neon signs in Times Square at night; donkeys carrying baggage; Margaret posing near cacti; a family emerging from a house; a church; and waves rolling over a rocky shoreline.

Item is a film showing group golfing, Stanley Park including Siwash Rock and Girl in a Wetsuit statue, a trip to Atlantic City including footage of Shriners band practice at a hotel, a man dressed in a bikini, a parade and men getting shoes shined, views of New York City from inside a vehicle and Expo Spokane grounds.
