Scope and content

Item is a videocassette showing edited footage recorded at Make Magic, the 18th Annual IAGSDC [International Association of Gay Square Dance Clubs] Convention at the Westin Bayshore Hotel and Resort, Vancouver from April 12 to 15, 2001. The video begins with an intro showing Vancouver nature and cityscapes, and general conference scenes with music by the Vancouver Men's Chorus. The intro is followed by a list of all participating clubs and callers and then a speech by Bill Monroe. The next portion of the video is a dance by Squares Across the Borders to "Heroes are Just the Same" called by Anne Uebelacker. The footage continues to show scenes from the conference including square dancing at the hotel with callers Todd Fellegy, Steve Edlund, Tom Miller, Ray Brendzy, and Anne Uebelacker; HTQ 2001 hosted by Ucanleime Amy and Virginia Hamm; banquet highlights featuring Bill Monroe and Miss Betsy Gotta receiving the Golden Boot Award; and the Magical Mystery Tour (escorted by the Vancouver City Police Motorcycle Drill team) dancing at Ceperly Park, Vanier Park, Spanish Banks, Queen Elizabeth Park and Library Square; and concluding with scenes from the closing ceremonies.
