Biographical history
Madill Garage Co. was opened in 1922 by J.E. Madill, previously proprietor of Reliable Transfer Co. at 365 Cordova St. Located at 660 Howe St. the garage acted as a gas station and storage facility for automobiles. On January 1, 1940, Madill sold the company to William Ellis Warren, an employee of Madill Garage, and Dr. J. Reeves, and subsequently retired. It appears that due to mounting debt the company closed down at the end of 1942.
Custodial history
Stuible found the records in a soon-to-be demolished house in either the Kerrisdale or Dunbar district. W.E. Warren resided at 3942 W. 23rd Ave. during his tenure at Madill Garage, so it is very possible the soon-to-be demolished house was once his.
Scope and content
The fonds consists of financial records in the form of electricity agreements, tax forms, rent receipts, accounts payable and receivable, balance sheets, bank statements, and ledgers. It also includes a form granting signing authority in August 1942 to W.E. Warren s wife, Edna.
