History

Herbert Arthur (Bert) Lowes was born September 4, 1915. He started in boxing as an athlete and quickly rose to the position of coach. As a boxing coach he won "Best Club" awards in the B.C. Golden Gloves competitions and taught many boys who were successful in major competitions. In addition, he coached both British Columbia's and Canada's Boxing teams. He was a director of referees and judges for the Canadian Amateur Boxing Association and the British Columbia Amateur Boxing Association and referee and judge for the Amateur International Boxing Association, officiating at the Central America and Carribean Games, British Commonwealth Games, World Championships and Olympic Games. In 1972 he received the Harold Mann Award from the British Columbia Amateur Boxing Association. Bert Lowes died in 2000.
