Item is a film showing a family celebrating Christmas. Film contains scenes with children unwrapping presents, playing Twister and board games, women preparing food, kittens playing, a dachshund puppy playing, a child getting a haircut in the bathroom, and Christmas decorations. The film ends with footage of school children participating in running races, potato sack races, relay races, and three-legged races on school grounds.

Item is a film consisting of several amateur films that have been spliced together. Footage documents the life of the George and Ruby (nee Wood) Thompson family from approximately 1928-1961. The film includes footage of significant family events such as the couple’s courtship, engagement and 1930 wedding, bringing home their baby daughter Valleen, and Christmas celebrations and holiday meals. Film also includes footage of numerous family scenes and subjects such as playing at the beach, picnicking, swimming, the family’s houses and pets, daughters Valleen and Hellene, and George and Ruby tending to and riding horses.

Film also includes footage of Vancouver attractions, including the Thompsons skiing and playing in the snow at Grouse Mountain circa 1928, and visiting the Stanley Park ornamental gardens and zoo in the 1930s.

The order of the stock date years of the films is as follows: 1929, 1926, 1928, 1939, 1932, 1933, 1934, 1945, 1959, 1955, 1946, 1961, 1948 and 1947.

Also shows people hiking in the woods, crowds at the Strawberry Mountain Rock Festival, men making silly faces, a woman at the beach, a cat looking at a light bulb, a child swinging garbage cans hung from chains, people sitting in a river drinking and toking, marijuana plants.

Colour portion of film shows rural area, a body of water with tugboat and barge, horse back riding at the Silver Lodge Riding Academy and candid shots of people on horses. Black and white portion shows a residential area (possibly Vancouver), kids and young men playing catch in the backyard, woman feeding treats to cats and a dog doing tricks, Hastings street showing various hotels and retail buildings, the BC Electric building, the Carnegie Library, playground with people on teeter-totters and swings (probably in Stanley Park), grizzly bears at the zoo (probably Stanley Park, the entrance to the Stanley Park Causeway and Vancouver City Hall.
