Aerospace Industry in BC [British Columbia]

Item is a short video highlighting business opportunities in British Columbia. It was created from the "Economic Development" (1992) 16mm, colour, raw footage (90 minutes); footage of the electronic and aerospace industry around Vancouver. From this and other footage from Yaletown Productions, two programs were edited for the Province of British Columbia, Ministry of Economic Development, Small Business and Trade. This short focuses on the aerospace industry in BC. Narration of this film compares the Snowbirds, Canada's military airshow team and goes on to explain the advantages of living and working in BC.

Shots include the plane taking off from a field, onlookers talking, and people embarking and disembarking from the airplane. Shots were likely made at Kai Tak airport. Later shots include Margaret smiling for the camera with the family dog in her arms, a view of the water through the trees, and Margaret posing with her mother.

Item is an amateur film from Douglas Scott's time living in Hong Kong and Victoria, British Columbia, which captures the Scott family at their Hong Kong home; boats in a crowded Hong Kong harbour and various ships; a Texaco station; fireworks at night; the lights of downtown Hong Kong; the streets of Hong Kong, with a man giving a performance or a speech, street vendors, merchants, cars, rickshaws, and signs; a cricket match; the Cenotaph in Hong Kong; a military parade and people near the waterfront to see off an unidentified dignitary (perhaps a British Navy admiral based on his uniform); and airplanes flying in formation. In Canada, the footage includes fishing in boats; sailing, possibly in the Gulf Islands; a sunset over the mountains and trees; animals, including deer, chickens, and a bear; a garden and flowers. The film then returns to China, and captures parts of an airplane being transported, followed by shots of an airplane flying.

Old Vancouver 1948

Item is a home movie which documents Stanley Park and the outer harbour of Vancouver. It pictures pedestrians in Stanley Park and on the sea wall, and various animal exhibits in the Stanley Park Zoo in early spring, and includes pan views of the lighthouse and North Vancouver from the Stanley Park sea wall, the collapsed 2nd Narrows Bridge in the harbour (collapsed June 1958) and Navy ships.

The film documents the April 23, 1952 United Grain Growers fire from different angles and a different fire on the North Shore near Lion's Gate Bridge. The film also shows scenes of Queen Elizabeth Park in Spring with views of over Vancouver. The film ends with an airforce aerial show from a view on the ground in a field and one of "Vancouver's last streetcars" giving free rides on the Hastings East Line on April 24, 1955.
