Item is an amateur film documenting the Spencer children and their grandfather R.V. Winch playing at Jericho Beach in Vancouver. Tourism B.C. Marketplace Progam [Program] - Expo 86

Item is "Marketplace Program" produced for EXPO 86 and Tourism BC. Major exhibition in BC Pavilion for EXPO 86. Multi-screen laser disc interactive display. Laser discs were very new at this time and cost over $2500 each to manufacture. This laser disc was produced to be used with specially designed players that would allow for touch-screen interaction from visitors to the B.C. Pavilion. These machines no longer exist; to get an idea of what options were made available pause the playback to view what the touch-screen displays looked like.
Item includes visual vignettes featuring footage to represent various geographical areas of the province of British Columbia. Theme music plays in the background of the scenes; no dialogue. Brief written descriptions of each area of the province precede each section of footage. At 00:10:23 - 00:10:24 screen shots of all of the various touch screen menu screens appear - to see these please slow down the playback and pause for each. Starting at 00:10:26 the footage plays out that would have been associated and parsed out for the various selected menu choices. Towards the end of the film, there is footage of the Vancouver Airport from the plane, and the arrivals terminal. The film ends with footage of the UBC Japanese Garden (Nitobe?) and parking lot.

Snowbirds: Come fly with us [English]

Film was a theatrical short produced for the 20th Anniversary of the Canadian Forces Air Demonstration Squadron, The Snowbirds. Yaletown Productions obtained distribution for the film across Canada; it played in theatres as a short before the Demi Moore feature film "Mortal Thoughts" (1991).

Item is original camera tape footage taken for the one hour television network documentary featuring Canada's aerobatic team, the Snowbirds. Includes an interview with Snowbirds Team Lead Stephan, an interview Dennis [?] and another Snowbirds team member in 1981-1982 and Team Lead from 1987-1988, an interview with a pilot [Bill] who is a fan of the Snowbirds but not a member of the Snowbirds, he talks about the skill of the Snowbirds pilots and comments on how other pilots view the skill displayed in the Snowbirds' show, ends with banquet scenes from the 20th anniversary celebration of the Snowbirds in Moose Jaw, S.K., including speeches, presentations and the audience clapping and listening.

Item consists of a motion picture film containing Fox Movietone Newsreel footage of the opening of the Sea Island airport in Vancouver. The footage begins with a man prop-starting a small plane. Some shots of a group of men standing next to the plane are followed by the plane taxiing on the runway (VH-UPS on the side). Another shot of the same group of men [possibly including Mayor L.D. Taylor?] is followed by a cockpit shot of the pilot in the plane. Shots of the hanger and terminal building are followed by an unidentified speaker addressing the audience with a microphone and a brass band behind him.

Old Vancouver 1948

Item is a home movie which documents Stanley Park and the outer harbour of Vancouver. It pictures pedestrians in Stanley Park and on the sea wall, and various animal exhibits in the Stanley Park Zoo in early spring, and includes pan views of the lighthouse and North Vancouver from the Stanley Park sea wall, the collapsed 2nd Narrows Bridge in the harbour (collapsed June 1958) and Navy ships.

The film documents the April 23, 1952 United Grain Growers fire from different angles and a different fire on the North Shore near Lion's Gate Bridge. The film also shows scenes of Queen Elizabeth Park in Spring with views of over Vancouver. The film ends with an airforce aerial show from a view on the ground in a field and one of "Vancouver's last streetcars" giving free rides on the Hastings East Line on April 24, 1955.

Stanley Park

Item is a copy of "Canada's magnificent snowbirds - 20th Anniversary" one hour television network documentary featuring Canada's aerobatic team, the Snowbirds. The documentary begins with an overall set up of a child wanting to grow up to be a Snowbird pilot. The story of the Snowbirds begins with try outs for four new Snowbirds pilots and moves on to the history of aerobatic flight teams in Canada. Using a mix of narration, interviews and historical footage the history of the Snowbirds is laid out and then the narration moves into practice, training and the designing of the new airshow routine for the 1991, 20th Anniversary, season. Leaving the training base in Moose Jaw, S.K. the Snowbirds team travels to Comox, B.C. for an airshow. The documentary continues with an overview of the role of the Snowbirds and their goals on their public relations and air show role. Themes touch on why the Snowbirds have lasted as long as they have and why they will continue on into the future. In addition to shots of crowds and performances two airshow promoters from the USA are interviewed. Back in Moose Jaw at the end of the 1991 season there is a reunion of alumni pilots. The documentary ends with a final performance of the 20th season and a child on a beach inspired to someday be a Snowbird pilot. Narrated by Leslie Neilsen. Cassette version edited from D-2. Includes footage of the Sky hawks jumping out of an airplane, performing sky diving maneuvers, and parachuting, some trick parachute maneuvers are performed, also includes footage of a Sky hawk administrator/clerk sky diving for the first time. Footage on this tape was captured inside the plane and alongside the Sky hawks attached to the helmet of a fellow sky diver. For the most part the audio is dominated by wind and aircraft noise.
