Item is an amateur film documenting members of the Spencer family on vacation, possibly in Hawaii. Film documents a Polynesian band and dancers, outdoor cooking, eating, and individuals receiving flower leis. Film includes footage of Colonel Victor and possibly Isabell Louise Spencer.
Tourism B.C. Marketplace Progam [Program] - Expo 86

Item is "Marketplace Program" produced for EXPO 86 and Tourism BC. Major exhibition in BC Pavilion for EXPO 86. Multi-screen laser disc interactive display. Laser discs were very new at this time and cost over $2500 each to manufacture. This laser disc was produced to be used with specially designed players that would allow for touch-screen interaction from visitors to the B.C. Pavilion. These machines no longer exist; to get an idea of what options were made available pause the playback to view what the touch-screen displays looked like.
Item includes visual vignettes featuring footage to represent various geographical areas of the province of British Columbia. Theme music plays in the background of the scenes; no dialogue. Brief written descriptions of each area of the province precede each section of footage. At 00:10:23 - 00:10:24 screen shots of all of the various touch screen menu screens appear - to see these please slow down the playback and pause for each. Starting at 00:10:26 the footage plays out that would have been associated and parsed out for the various selected menu choices. At 00:12:08-00:12:11 more screen shots of selections flash by, again slow or pause to view these fully. Starting at 00:12:12 more groupings of clips of British Columbia can be viewed. The16mm release print that the digital child was made from, was struck from the internegative/original negatives, and the optical sound track; it is closest thing to an original in the donation for this production. It is the only record of this movie on film with a soundtrack.
Playground films -- special events
Item is a documentary film documenting various recreational activities and special events taking place in park playgrounds in Vancouver. The film contains footage of special events such as the 1967 Sandbox Project, the Annual Kids Fishing Derby, and the Soap-box Derby. The recreational activities documented include baseball, children?s fishing, Ukrainian dancing, outdoor ballet dancing, boxing, bicycle riding, basketball, volleyball, outdoor gymnastics, children?s games, and musical performances. The film also documents a children?s parade involving children carrying signs with various Vancouver park names, a children?s puppet show, a parade with children marching their bicycles and a marching bag-piping band as well as a children?s trophy ceremony. In addition, the film contains footage of children driving mini cars at the Playground Traffic School as well as footage of Camp Capilano and children participating in recreational activities such as hiking, eating lunch and tug of war.
Handicapped summer playground program
Item is a documentary film documenting the Handicapped Summer Playground Program of 1963. Film contains footage of the B.C. Society for Crippled Children?s bus which transports the children to the park as well as footage of the children participating in activities such as playing games and eating lunch.
