Hilarity ensues as they hide out in their own home and various neighbours who have keys to their apartment take advantage of the 'empty' home for the two week vacation period. The small family grows closer in crisis and decide to make some life changing choices.

The gift of water

"The gift of water" won two awards at the Canadian Film and Television Association Awards in 1975: Best Nature and Wildlife Film as well as Best Cinematography.

Stanley Park

Item is a documentary film documenting views and tourist attractions at Stanley Park (B.C). Film documents the Brockton Point Lighthouse, the south end of the Lions Gate (First Narrows) Bridge (1932-) with heavy vehicle traffic, the exterior of the Stanley Park Dining Pavilion, the seawall with cyclists, and the totem poles at Brockton Point. The film also contains footage of a float plane, cargo ship, squirrel, and several views of downtown Vancouver.

Spring

Item is an amateur film which opens with a "Photographed by Douglas Stewart Scott : Supplied by Scott Camera Craft Limited 1015 Douglas St. Victoria BC" intertitle. The film is composed of shots of spring around Victoria. Shots include flowers and gardens; lakes, meadows and trees at Beacon Hill Park; animals, including ducks, bears, and pheasant at the Beacon Hill Park zoo; a rural area with cows, puppies, and sheep; and a ship. The Empress Hotel, British Columbia Parliament Buildings, Inner Harbour and CPR steamships are visible in some of the shots.

Panchromatic demonstration reel

Item is a Kodak commercial reel, demonstrating the capabilities of Kodak Panchromatic black and white film. The demonstration consists of shots of a variety of natural scenes (including waterfalls, rivers, and ponds); animals (including horses, dogs, and cats); boats (including canoes, sailboats, and a warship); an airplane; and a game with men attempting to capture a flag which sits atop a greased pole.

Our outdoor heritage

Item is a documentary film documenting Vancouver's parks in 1940. This film names Vancouver the "Playground City of the North West" and contains footage of Stanley Park, Connaught Park, Douglas Park, Devonshire Park, Shaughnessy Park, Memorial West Park, Memorial South Park, Almond Park, Hastings Community Park, Grandview Park, Trout Lake, Queen Elizabeth Park, Tatlow Park, Thornton Park, Hadden Park, Burrard View Park, Maple Grove Park, Sunset Nursery, Victory Square Park, Beaver Lake Park as well as Vancouver's beaches including English Bay, Kitsilano Beach, Second Beach, Spanish Banks and Locarno Beach. The film also features Stanley Park including footage of typical scenes at the entrance and causeway, the Administration Offices of the parks system, primeval forest scenes, blossom time in the rockeries and gardens, Lost Lagoon, Prospect Point, Lions Gate Bridge, the totem poles and a view of Stanley park from afar. As well, the film documents the locations of the free swimming classes provided by Vancouver Sun newspaper at Lumberman's Arch Pool, Kitsilano Pool, New Brighton Pool and Maple Grove Pool. Vancouver's playgrounds are also documented with footage of children playing in the playgrounds at Memorial South Playground, Norquay Playground, Robson Playground and McLean Playground. In addition, this film documents a variety of recreational activities that take place in Vancouver's parks including swimming, sunbathing, boating, diving, folk dancing, tennis, golfing (at Fraser Golf Course), walking, lawn bowling, horse-shoe pitching, model yacht racing, cricket, playing games, enjoying the park's fauna and flora (in both summer and autumn), picnicking and having BBQs. Special events such as symphonies, Dress-up Day, the Annual Sandbox Contest, and the annual Soap-box Derby are also documented.

On Safari : Kenya

Item is a videotape containing an edited video travel diary showing Malcolm Crane and Stanley Weese's trip to Kenya from November 27-December 18, 1991. The tape is narrated by Stanley Weese and contains titles for each day of the trip. There are scenes showing airports, documents, maps, animals, food, drink, people, souvenirs, plants and scenery. Crane and Weese take turns speaking to the camera about their travels including accommodations, food and sights.

Film was a wildlife/educational piece presented by B.C. Hydro and narrated by Tommy Tompkins. Produced and edited by Michael Collier. Film features footage of swelling rivers, many different flora as well as wild animals, and their young, in their natural habitats. Wildlife featured include: moose, deer, beaver, squirrels, muskrats, geese, groundhogs, loons, osprey, fish, black bears, owls, raccoons, gyrfalcons, eagles, mountain goats, foxes, lynx, a lynx kitten, cougar kittens, marmots, and grizzly bears. This copy is in better shape than MI-275, and has unique introductory narration and footage as well as other editing differences throughout slightly changing the footage used as well as the narration.

Hong Kong and Victoria -miscellaneous

Item is an amateur film from Douglas Scott's time living in Hong Kong and Victoria, British Columbia, which captures the Scott family at their Hong Kong home; boats in a crowded Hong Kong harbour and various ships; a Texaco station; fireworks at night; the lights of downtown Hong Kong; the streets of Hong Kong, with a man giving a performance or a speech, street vendors, merchants, cars, rickshaws, and signs; a cricket match; the Cenotaph in Hong Kong; a military parade and people near the waterfront to see off an unidentified dignitary (perhaps a British Navy admiral based on his uniform); and airplanes flying in formation. In Canada, the footage includes fishing in boats; sailing, possibly in the Gulf Islands; a sunset over the mountains and trees; animals, including deer, chickens, and a bear; a garden and flowers. The film then returns to China, and captures parts of an airplane being transported, followed by shots of an airplane flying.

Hong Kong - George V silver jubilee parade, miscellaneous

Item is an amateur film from Douglas Scott's time living in Hong Kong which captures a parade which celebrates King George V's Silver Jubilee (as read on banners in the parade). Various groups go down the street, including dragon dances, children in ornate dress carried on litters, people wearing masks, various floats, and musicians, as crowds of Hong Kong residents and expatriates watch. Subsequent footage includes locals working near the docks; Margaret and her mother at the Scott house with various animals; boats on the water; and a tram in Hong Kong.

Flowers, horses, painting Pattullo Bridge

Item is an amateur film which captures flowers, trees, and foliage, with the British Columbia Parliament buildings at times visible in the background; and women riding horses and playing with a dog. The latter half of the film captures labourers painting the Pattullo Bridge (New Westminster, B.C.) while hoisted on pulleys or simply free climbing. The workers, covered with paint themselves, pose together at the end of the film.

Downtown : the issues -

Item is a documentary film documenting the transportation and population issues that impact access to downtown Vancouver. Film contains scenes of driving on the Granville Street Bridge, people attending a show, on a beach and walking around city streets at both daytime and evening.

China (dogs, horses, people)

Item is an amateur film from Douglas Scott's time living in Hong Kong which captures an expatriate couple jumping horses over low brush fences and coaxing what appear to be fox terriers to jump the fence; slow motion shots of horse riding; dogs playing tug-of-war; and the expatriate couple play fighting and posing with props.
