Item is an amateur film documenting the Vancouver Polo team defeating Douglas Lake 13-4 for BC Challenge Trophy. The film contains footage primarily of the match being played, with Norman Drysdale scoring for the Vancouver Team. It also shows Mrs. E. W. Hamber and Mrs. Kydd presenting the trophy to the victorius team, composed of Norman Drysdale, Colonel R. S. Chaplin, Hon. J. W. Fordham and Eric Hamber.

Item is a film consisting of at least seven separate pieces of amateur film footage spliced together. Film includes black and white footage taken at Grouse Mountain in 1930 showing men and women skiing, a snowplough clearing snow, a dogsled, and a black bear cub playing with a dog. The remaining film footage is in colour, and includes George Thompson jumping obstacles on horseback in 1947; 1948 footage of the Thompson's champion horse Goldheart and two men riding in a chariot pulled by Goldheart and another horse; a large number of spectators sitting in stands to watch an unidentified event in West Vancouver in 1950; cabins and horses at Knox Lake in 1979; and the Thompson's house and gardens at 865 Wildwood Lane, West Vancouver in 1979 and 1980.

Item is a documentary film documenting Stanley Park including recreational activities and special events in the park. The film contains footage of traffic entering Stanley Park, Lions Gate Bridge viewed from the park, totem poles, as well as scenes of trees and flower gardens that show the park in bloom. The film documents people engaging in a variety of the park?s recreational activities as well such as horse back riding, walking, playing cricket, purchasing ice-cream from the ice-cream stand, golfing, swimming and playing in the water at the beach. The film also contains footage of track and field sports taking place at Brockton Oval including shot-put, discus, running races, high jumping, and pole-jumping. In addition, the film documents a visit to the park by Princess Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, as well as people building the sea wall. Children are also featured in the park playing on the playground equipment, riding the Stanley Park Miniature Railway, and interacting with the animals at the petting zoo. Various animals in Stanley Park and the zoo are also documented including swans, ducks, raccoons, monkeys, sea lions, penguins, sea otters and a peacock.

McClay, Commissioner J. B. Thomas, and Commissioner R. D. This film names Vancouver the "Playground City of the North West" and contains footage of Stanley Park, Connaught Park, Douglas Park, Devonshire Park, Shaughnessy Park, Memorial West Park, Memorial South Park, Almond Park, Hastings Community Park, Grandview Park, Trout Lake, Queen Elizabeth Park, Tatlow Park, Thornton Park, Hadden Park, Burrard View Park, Maple Grove Park, Sunset Nursery, Victory Square Park, Beaver Lake Park as well as Vancouver's beaches including English Bay, Kitsilano Beach, Second Beach, Spanish Banks and Locarno Beach. The film also features Stanley Park including footage of typical scenes at the entrance and causeway, the Administration Offices of the parks system, primeval forest scenes, blossom time in the rockeries and gardens, Lost Lagoon, Prospect Point, Lions Gate Bridge, the totem poles and a view of Stanley park from afar. Stanley Park railway

Item is a documentary film documenting the Stanley Park Miniature Railway and other recreational activities in the park. The b&w footage of this film documents the construction of the miniature railway including bulldozing of the land and building of the railway tracks. It also contains footage of a ceremony involving hammering in the last spike as well as footage of the train running along the tracks in full operation carrying passengers and arriving at a station filled with crowds of people waiting to take a ride. The colour footage of this film documents other recreational activities in the park such as people doing arts and crafts, archery, and the 19th Annual Sandbox Contest. Collingwood Park is also documented in the film with footage of children participating in a tug of war and high jump. There is also footage of an unidentified ceremony involving a musical band, flag raising and balloon releasing.

Identified floats and performers include the train from Montreal to Port Moody 1886, New Westminster, Comox Valley, Sannich, Vancouver Fire Department, Fraser Expedition, Canadian Order of Foresters, The Moonlighters, Horseshoe Bay, and the P.N.E Minstrel Band. Businesses and buildings shown include Standard Stations, British American Oil Company, Canadian Pacific Railroad, Radio CKWX 1130, Hotel Vancouver, Georgia Hotel, the Provincial Courthouse, and Pacific Western Airlines. Footage also shows downtown street banners. The second half of the film includes footage of the RCMP riding onto Hastings Park racetrack in formation in front of an RCMP band being conducted and a crowd. Houses in the Hastings-Sunrise area to the east of Hastings Park are also shown.

Opening of Bloedel Conservatory

Item is a documentary film documenting the opening of the Bloedel Conservatory in Queen Elizabeth Park on December 6th, 1969. Film contains bird?s eye view footage of the Bloedel Conservatory, Stanley Park and downtown Vancouver as seen from an airplane. The film also documents the external building structure of the Bloedel Conservatory and people entering it for the opening ceremony. Parade on Pender Street and dance performances

Item is a film showing a parade on Pender Street with people dancing and walking with banners, as well as a scene with a group posing for photographs. The second part of the film shows dance performances on an indoor stage. Writing on box suggests the performances are by the Strathcona Folk Dance group and a dance group visiting from China.

Protest

Item is a documentary film documenting a street demonstration in Vancouver in July 1981 protesting the screening of the sexually explicit feature film Caligula in a conventional movie house (not a pornographic establishment). The film includes footage of a crowd of several dozen adults and children carrying placards and picketing the Towne Cinema (919 Granville Street) where Caligula was being shown, a spokesperson for the organization United Citizens for Integrity explaining their reasons for protest, and a number of heated debates on the street between protestors and bystanders/theatre-goers. Film also includes some general views of Granville Street showing the Towne Cinema and nearby buildings.

Film is the release print of "Stadium" featuring construction of BC Place Stadium with time lapse of inflating roof. Also contains a panning shot of the city of Vancouver, and shots of construction in progress before the roof was ready to go up, workers working, an aerial view of the building without a roof, the crowd and dignitaries inside awaiting and watching the inflation of the roof. Tourism B.C. Marketplace Progam [Program] - Expo 86

Item is "Marketplace Program" produced for EXPO 86 and Tourism BC. Major exhibition in BC Pavilion for EXPO 86. Multi-screen laser disc interactive display. Laser discs were very new at this time and cost over $2500 each to manufacture. This laser disc was produced to be used with specially designed players that would allow for touch-screen interaction from visitors to the B.C. Pavilion. These machines no longer exist; to get an idea of what options were made available pause the playback to view what the touch-screen displays looked like.
Item includes visual vignettes featuring footage to represent various geographical areas of the province of British Columbia. Theme music plays in the background of the scenes; no dialogue. Brief written descriptions of each area of the province precede each section of footage. At 00:10:23 - 00:10:24 screen shots of all of the various touch screen menu screens appear - to see these please slow down the playback and pause for each. Starting at 00:10:26 the footage plays out that would have been associated and parsed out for the various selected menu choices.
