The story follows a couple living in New York trying to impress their neighbours and boss by telling everyone that they were going on an African vacation that the Johnson's could not actually afford. Hilarity ensues as they hide out in their own home and various neighbours who have keys to their apartment take advantage of the 'empty' home for the two week vacation period. The small family grows closer in crisis and decide to make some life changing choices.

Contains footage of Katmandu street scenes, Everest - Climb for Hope team members, markets, street sellers, pedestrians, traffic, dogs and people sleeping, a brief scene at a restaurant. Everest - Climb for Hope team members walking along a road beside a river, past a small settlement, through mud, past an avalanche of rocks, includes shots of more rocks falling off the cliff onto the pathway, team members and Sherpas/porters following the first group through the danger area of falling rocks, team members pass another village and interact with local children, scenes of a river or stream being forged, packs being loaded onto a van, an immigration office on the road, Sherpas carry a large and heavy box up a steep path, Alan, an ex-American world-class gymnast carries the 250 lb box a few meters. Team members and their gear are assembled in a building, locals gather around at the Zhang Mu Hotel, negotiations are made with a translator to hire Sherpas to carry gear, some Chinese [?] officials can be seen, the line-up of those waiting for work hold on to each other to eliminate the ability for anyone to cut in line [?] or jump the queue, shots of the Sherpas with heavy packs walking away from the Zhang Mu Hotel and more negotiations with the translator near the truck where the supplies are being loaded. Item is original camera tape footage taken for the "Everest - Climb for hope" documentary. Ambient noise. Video contains footage of a fire built to burn garbage and the team's trip to [out of] base camp. On the way the truck gets stuck and is dug out; the truck also stops and the team interacts with some local farmers.

Item is original camera tape footage taken for the "Everest - Climb for hope" documentary. Footage includes scenes for men packing, breaking camp, and cleaning. MacIsaac gives an account of the final push to make the summit by three of the team members: Denis Brown, Mario Belladeau and John MacIsaac. Team members sort garbage and do some personal grooming, beard trimming and bathing. The video also includes footage of the Canadian team at a local settlement/monastery. The video ends with an interview with Alan about the communication from Everest with Canadian media.

Includes an interview with Ernie [Erwin] Sniedzins about the origins of "The Climb for Hope," its beginnings in 1986, Rett Syndrome the disease and its effect on the Sniedzins family, and he compares climbing Mount Everest to tackling the challenges of Rett Syndrome. There is also scenes of Sniedzins walking in the park with his daughter, Sarah, who suffers from Rett Syndrome.

Item is a documentary film documenting people participating in recreational activities in Montreal?s parks. Some of the recreational activities documented in the film include children?s playground activities, a parade, races, baseball, tug-of-war, swimming, gymnastics, ice-skating, hockey and a toboggan run.

[Spencer] family

Item is an amateur film documenting the Spencer children and their grandfather R.V. Winch playing at Jericho Beach in Vancouver. Hangars of the Royal Canadian Air Force Base are visible and float planes. The film also documents a gathering of people and automobiles in a wooded area. An accompanying handwritten note reads "John, Victor, Grandpa at beach" and "Groups of people and old cars (a lot of Chinese people)".

Item is a film showing Wayne McCuaig's seventh birthday party with a pony, a Halloween party, Christmas celebrations 1958, Britannia Beach with friends Laura West and Patsy McCannell, sports day at school, Patricia McCuaig playing the accordion, Queen Elizabeth opening Deas Island Tunnel (now Massey Tunnel) in July 1959, summer camp, water skiing, playing football and time with neighbours.

Tourism B.C. Marketplace Progam [Program] - Expo 86

Item is "Marketplace Program" produced for EXPO 86 and Tourism BC. Major exhibition in BC Pavilion for EXPO 86. Multi-screen laser disc interactive display. Laser discs were very new at this time and cost over $2500 each to manufacture. This laser disc was produced to be used with specially designed players that would allow for touch-screen interaction from visitors to the B.C. Pavilion. These machines no longer exist; to get an idea of what options were made available pause the playback to view what the touch-screen displays looked like.
Item includes visual vignettes featuring footage to represent various geographical areas of the province of British Columbia. Theme music plays in the background of the scenes; no dialogue. Brief written descriptions of each area of the province precede each section of footage. 1858-1958 Centenary Vancouver BC

Item is an amateur film documenting early and present-day Vancouver. This film contains footage of the Second Narrows Highway Bridge collapse, construction of the Deas Island Tunnel and Woodward's Oakridge Shopping Centre, as well as footage of Centennial Beach Park, Fort Langley Park, Queen Elizabeth Arboretum and the Bowladrome in Kerrisdale. The exterior and interior of a Vancouver home, including footage of children at play and a Christmas celebration, are also documented. There are also images of still photographs from the early 1900s which document sunbathers at a beach, loggers at work and the Stanley Park Hollow Tree. A Pioneer Citizen certificate bearing the name Max Wiehand is also shown.

Childcare professionals from Langara Child Development Centre discuss the importance of language development in children and the importance of intervening early when children have difficulties. Patience Towler, Vancouver Health Department Senior Speech Language Pathologist,introduces the purpose of the program: to recognize speech development issues in children, and understand when children should be referred to a language pathologist. The program then goes on to explain a general timeline for expressive language development in children; the difference between expressive language and language comprehension; skills required for language comprehension; and second or parallel language development in children. The program details how to recognize potential speech and language difficulties in children; watching children for difficulties in interactions with others; and communicating with the child's parents. This is followed by descriptions of the potential speech and language difficulties a child may have, including difficulties with pronunciation, fluency, and voice.

Item is a film consisting of several amateur films that have been spliced together. Footage documents the life of the George and Ruby (nee Wood) Thompson family from approximately 1928-1961. The film includes footage of significant family events such as the couple’s courtship, engagement and 1930 wedding, bringing home their baby daughter Valleen, and Christmas celebrations and holiday meals. Film also includes footage of numerous family scenes and subjects such as playing at the beach, picnicking, swimming, the family’s houses and pets, daughters Valleen and Hellene, and George and Ruby tending to and riding horses.

Film also includes footage of Vancouver attractions, including the Thompsons skiing and playing in the snow at Grouse Mountain circa 1928, and visiting the Stanley Park ornamental gardens and zoo in the 1930s.

Stone Symposium - Sympos[ium] crane

Item is an amateur film documenting the 1975 Vancouver International Stone Symposium at VanDusen Gardens. The film contains footage of Canadian Reserve soldiers helping move sculptures using a crane, as well as footage of children watching the process. Artists believed to be featured include Maria Kubach-Wilmsen, Jiro Sugawara, David Marshall, Mathias Hietz, and Adolf Ryszka. The main sculpture being moved is "Travertine Sculpture 75" by David Marshall.
