Those magnificent snowbirds - The first 20 years

Item is a copy of "Canada's magnificent snowbirds - 20th Anniversary" one hour television network documentary featuring Canada's aerobatic team, the Snowbirds. The documentary begins with an overall set up of a child wanting to grow up to be a Snowbird pilot. The story of the Snowbirds begins with try outs for four new Snowbirds pilots and moves on to the history of aerobatic flight teams in Canada. Using a mix of narration, interviews and historical footage the history of the Snowbirds is laid out and then the narration moves into practice, training and the designing of the new airshow routine for the 1991, 20th Anniversary, season. Leaving the training base in Moose Jaw, S.K. the Snowbirds team travels to Comox, B.C. for an airshow. The documentary continues with an overview of the role of the Snowbirds and their goals on their public relations and air show role. Themes touch on why the Snowbirds have lasted as long as they have and why they will continue on into the future. In addition to shots of crowds and performances two airshow promoters from the USA are interviewed. Back in Moose Jaw at the end of the 1991 season there is a reunion of alumni pilots. The documentary ends with a final performance of the 20th season and a child on a beach inspired to someday be a Snowbird pilot. Narrated by Leslie Neilsen. Cassette version edited from D-2. This is the superless cassette version - no blacks or bumpers.

Includes an interview with Ernie [Erwin] Sniedzins about the origins of "The Climb for Hope," its beginnings in 1986, Rett Syndrome the disease and its effect on the Sniedzins family, and he compares climbing Mount Everest to tackling the challenges of Rett Syndrome. There is also scenes of Sniedzins walking in the park with his daughter, Sarah, who suffers from Rett Syndrome.

Everest - Climb for Hope team members walking along a road beside a river, past a small settlement, through mud, past an avalanche of rocks, includes shots of more rocks falling off the cliff onto the pathway, team members and Sherpas/porters following the first group through the danger area of falling rocks, team members pass another village and interact with local children, scenes of a river or stream being forged, packs being loaded onto a van, an immigration office on the road, Sherpas carry a large and heavy box up a steep path, Alan, an ex-American world-class gymnast carries the 250 lb box a few meters. Team members and their gear are assembled in a building, locals gather around at the Zhang Mu Hotel, negotiations are made with a translator to hire Sherpas to carry gear, some Chinese [?] officials can be seen, the line-up of those waiting for work hold on to each other to eliminate the ability for anyone to cut in line [?] or jump the queue, shots of the Sherpas with heavy pack walking away from the Zhang Mu Hotel and more negotiations with the translator near the truck where the supplies are being loaded.

Yaletown Everest 11

Item is original camera tape footage taken for the "Everest - Climb for hope" documentary. Footage includes scenes for men packing, breaking camp, and cleaning. MacIsaac gives an account of the final push to make the summit by three of the team members: Denis Brown, Mario Belladeau and John MacIsaac. Team members sort garbage and do some personal grooming, beard trimming and bathing. The video also includes footage of the Canadian team at a local settlement/monastery. The video ends with an interview with Alan about the communication from Everest with Canadian media.

Item is original camera tape footage taken for the "Everest - Climb for hope" documentary. Ambient noise. Video contains footage of a fire built to burn garbage and the team's trip to [out of] base camp. On the way the truck gets stuck and is dug out; the truck also stops and the team interacts with some local farmers.

The small family grows closer in crisis and decide to make some life changing choices.

Item is "Have Camera, Will Travel" with Art Brewer, assignment "Palau;" a one hour network television documentary shot and completed in High Definition in 2003. Broadcast first on NHK Japan. The film follows Brewer as he takes photographs for the travel magazine "Islands" in Palau. Item is a version of "Rockies by rail" which has no narration, only music and effects. There is a time code reading at the bottom of the screen throughout. Footage includes some nice panning shots of the city of Vancouver. Michael Collier is sometimes one of the train passengers. Some footage was shot in Alaska as well as British Columbia.

Yaletown Productions ; Belize - promo[tional] 7:30

Item is promotional material for "Belize - Rain Forest Expedition" (1995). This was a pilot for a television series for Discovery Channel. The series did not proceed. The video introduces Belize with shots of locals, then follows a group of scientists and archeologists into the Belize rainforest where they observe wildlife and discover Mayan ruins. Information about Belize, to supplement the narration, is interspersed at the bottom of the screen.

Item contains original sound mix elements for the one hour network television documentary "Have camera, will travel - Art Brewer - assignment Palau." Channel 6. One minute tone at head; includes ambient noise including sounds of: traffic and vehicle motors, rain, wind, water sounds, a motorboat motor, some voices, the sound of a camera shutter, breathing/diving sounds, surf, and children laughing. Item is original sound element for the documentary "Everest - Climb for Hope." Includes an interview talking about a phone call that happened between Dennis and some school children at a school in Fort St. James, British Columbia, Canada. The call occurred while the team members were on the mountain climbing during a storm. From north col. Sept. 22, 1991. A group meeting and assessment of progress and plans and the fact that a summit bid may be out of the question due to severe weather conditions. Some wild sound of wind and tents.

Tourism B.C. Marketplace Progam [Program] - Expo 86

Item is "Marketplace Program" produced for EXPO 86 and Tourism BC. Major exhibition in BC Pavilion for EXPO 86. Multi-screen laser disc interactive display. Laser discs were very new at this time and cost over $2500 each to manufacture. This laser disc was produced to be used with specially designed players that would allow for touch-screen interaction from visitors to the B.C. Pavilion. These machines no longer exist; to get an idea of what options were made available pause the playback to view what the touch-screen displays looked like.
Item includes visual vignettes featuring footage to represent various geographical areas of the province of British Columbia. Theme music plays in the background of the scenes; no dialogue. Brief written descriptions of each area of the province precede each section of footage. At 00:10:23 - 00:10:24 screen shots of all of the various touch screen menu screens appear - to see these please slow down the playback and pause for each. Starting at 00:10:26 the footage plays out that would have been associated and parsed out for the various selected menu choices.
