Everest - Climb For Hope

Item is the master version of the film "Everest - Climb For Hope;" a documentary following a Canadian team of climbers raising money for research and awareness about Rett Syndrome by climbing Mount Everest. Ernie Sneidzins is the father of a young teenager suffering from Rett Syndrome, it was his determination to do something that set this expedition in motion. 21 Club reunion July 12, 1986

File consists of eighteen photographs of a ceremony for those Vancouverites that turned twenty-one in 1936 and had been honoured as part of the Golden Jubilee festivities. The first part of the ceremony took place at St. Andrew's Wesley Church followed by a tea and Dance at Hotel Vancouver. Individuals identified are Mayor Michael Harcourt, Dal Richards and Mart Kenney.

File consists of seven prints relating to the dedication of Volunteer Park on April 19, 1986 (2011-010.2252 to 2011-010.2255), the Vancouver Sun Run on April 20, 1986 (2011-010.2256 and 2011-010.2257), and the parade at the April 6, 1986 birthday party (2011-010.2251). File consists of six contact sheets with a total of 197 images of the Distinguished Pioneer Awards ceremony held at Hotel Vancouver and prints of four of these images. Includes many images of Governor General Jeanne Sauve handing out the awards. Prints include an image of Sauve presenting an award to Mr. Rice, images of the officials attending, and a view of the seated recipients. Individuals identified are Governor General Jeanne Sauve, Mr. Rice, Mayor Michael Harcourt and Vancouver Centennial Commission Chairman Michael Francis.

Fraser Wilson mural

File consists of two contact sheets with a total of sixty images pertaining to a celebration for the restoration and relocation of murals by artist Fraser Wilson from Pender Hall to the Maritime Labour Centre. Individuals identified are Mayor Mike Harcourt and Fraser Wilson. Some images appear to show Harcourt and Councillor May Brown with items from the Mayors Gift Program.

Playground films -- special events

Item is a documentary film documenting various recreational activities and special events taking place in park playgrounds in Vancouver. The film contains footage of special events such as the 1967 Sandbox Project, the Annual Kids Fishing Derby, and the Soap-box Derby. The recreational activities documented include baseball, children?s fishing, Ukrainian dancing, outdoor ballet dancing, boxing, bicycle riding, basketball, volleyball, outdoor gymnastics, children?s games, and musical performances. The film also documents a children?s parade involving children carrying signs with various Vancouver park names, a children?s puppet show, a parade with children marching their bicycles and a marching bag-piping band as well as a children?s trophy ceremony. In addition, the film contains footage of children driving mini cars at the Playground Traffic School as well as footage of Camp Capilano and children participating in recreational activities such as hiking, eating lunch and tug of war.
