King Edward High School collection

The collection consists of yearbooks, newsletters, a few newsclippings, photograph albums, and additional photographs. The yearbooks are dated 1912-1962, quite a complete set with the following years not represented: 1914, 1919, 1924, 1925, 1926, 1942, 1943, 1944, 1947, 1950, 1951, 1954, 1956. The newsletters include: "The Stranger" (Feb. 1912); "The High School Argus" (Nov. 1913); and "Blue and White" (1937-1960), as well as a golden anniversary reunion program dated 1960. Newsclippings are dated 1972-1976. The photographs (not yet described, CVA 664) include a set five albums, each of which contains identified portraits of graduates (1932, 1933, 1934, 1935, 1936, shelved at CVA 664 box 1). Another album contains miscellaneous photographs used in the 1960 yearbook (also CVA 664 box 1).

Photographs depict the Hamber and Hendry families and Eric Hamber's life as an international financier, B.C. Lieutenant Governor, industrialist, athlete, and rancher. The films are primarily home movies that depict a range of social activities in which the Hamber family was involved. Two films are newsreel items documenting a polo game for BC Challenge Trophy and the visit of Governor General his excellency the Right Honourable the Earl of Bessborough, PC, GCMC, and her excellency the Countess of Bessborough to the Britannia Mines on board of Eric Hamber's yacht.

The collection consists of a consultant's report "Kitsilano Railway Bridge - Assessment of the Steel Spans" prepared in 1981 by Buckland and Taylor Ltd. for B.C. Hydro. Plans and photographs are included in the report. In addition, there are engineering plans by J. Coughlan & Sons, and Waddell & Harrrington dated 1914, plans by various other firms dated 1900-1901 of the swing bridge over Columbia River, and a plan by the B.C. Electric Company Ltd. dated 1960 showing the swing span, fixed truss and old support and protection piers of the Kitsilano Bridge. The first C.P.R. Kitsilano trestle across False Creek was built in 1886. It was modified over the years and finally taken down in 1982. It was located between the Burrard Street Bridge and Granville Street Bridge.
