Series consists of records relating to public meetings and public consultation regarding electoral reform for the City of Vancouver. This includes public meetings minutes, registrations at public meetings, survey tracking and reports, written submissions from the public, posters, flyers and a copy of the final report.

Subseries consists of letters of appeal, correspondence with the City Clerk, and relevant excerpts from Council "in camera" minutes, all relating to Council's "in camera" function as the appeal body to the business licensing decisions made by the License Inspector. Subseries contains files on issues requiring budgetary approval by Council, including personnel and labour matters. Arranged alphabetically by subject.

Administrative files

This subseries contains correspondence and subject files dealing with building maintenance personnel and supplies, agendas for weekly divisional meetings, and outward correspondence. Arranged chronologically.

City Engineer's Office manuals, reports and publications collection

Series consists of evaluation reports on Engineering activities (parking, street cleaning, landfill, etc.), manuals of the Engineering Department, publications relating to the City's major issues which were kept by the City Engineer, and papers given by the City Engineer to outside organizations, a selection of publications collected by successive City Engineers (since at least 1956, when R. M. Martin, served as City Engineer). Arranged chronologically by start year.

Subseries consists of records pertaining to a number of operational activities of the Fire Department. Subjects include equipment and apparatus; firehalls and fire boats; dispatch and communication; and uniforms.

Subseries consists of records pertaining to administrative matters and includes departmental directives and ciculars, seniority lists, miscellaneous correspondence and working files on Fire Department tours.

City departments

Subseries consists of correspondence, memos and minutes pertaining to other City departments, both generated and received by the Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chiefs.

Organizations

Subseries consists of correspondence, newsletters, amendments to constitutions and bylaws, and other records pertaining to external organizations.

Finance

Subseries consists of records pertaining to budget and expense items.

Administrative files

Subseries consists of notes on banner themes and artists, correspondence, media kits, three reference albums of color photostats of photographs of the banners on city streets and reference slides of banners held in the Archives.

Correspondence, housing

Subseries consists of incoming and outgoing correspondence. Incoming correspondence consists of requests of citizens for investigation into their complaints. The outgoing correspondence consists of copies of the response to these requests for inspection. The records are arranged alphabetically by street name.

Swimming pools

Subseries is divided into two categories: correspondence, plans and reports pertaining to specific swimming pools; and correspondence regulations and reports pertaining to swimming pools in general.

Health inspection cards

Subseries consists of cards arranged alphabetically by street name. A one line entry registers the date of inspection and the Inspector's remarks on the condition of the premises. The series is available on microfilm only. Dates are approximate.

Miscellaneous

In addition to health-related regulations and blueprints, this subseries includes dental and public health photographs and negatives, miscellaneous statistics (1953-1963), and health inspection report forms (June 1973).

Correspondence files

Subseries includes correspondence 1977-1985, inquiries 1983-1986, and invitations 1981-1986. Arranged chronologically.

Subject files

This subseries includes subject files used both in Ford's administration of City matters and Greater Vancouver Regional District affairs. Due to the voluminous nature of the series, the records have been appraised at the item level. Earlier files, created between the 1970's and 1980's were transferred by Marguerite Ford when clearing her office after her defeat in the civic election of 1986 and should be read in context with the earlier access of the records. Arranged alphabetically by file title and chronologically within each file.

Newspaper clippings

Subseries contains newspaper clippings which reflect Kennedy's interest in urban planning and in Vancouver's civic political scene.

Subject files

These files include such items as inter-office memos, reports and briefs from City departments and community groups, copies of letters by Harcourt and others, agendas and minutes of meetings from Council committees and various community committees, handwritten notes, petitions, and supporting material for Council discussions. Some of the documents are underlined or annotated. When they were received, the subject files were in roughly alphabetical order by file title. The small discrepancies from alphabetical order were then corrected.

Subseries consists of correspondence, notes and briefs on the third crossing, development in the downtown area and the West End, as well as civic and provincial elections.

Correspondence files

These files include correspondence and memos from other City departments and officials, as well as Harcourt's correspondence with his constituents and officials in other cities. The correspondence is arranged alphabetically by the name of the writer (or by the name of the recipient if the correspondence was initiated by Harcourt). One file usually corresponds to one letter of the alphabet, but not all letters of the alphabet are represented. The files include both incoming letters and copies of outgoing letters.

Personal files

Subseries consists of correspondence and personal essays, as well as photographs, correspondence, notes and reviews related to his books "Vancouver Tomorrow" and "Vancouver - Fight For It or Lose It". Arranged alphabetically.

Subject files

These records are files compiled by Woodside in his capacity as chairman of the Bridges and Railways Committee and as alderman. The material in the Bridges and Railways Committee files contains information on the construction of the Georgia Viaduct, the Main Street bridge, False Creek seawall and North Vancouver ferry subway. Later records also deal with grain elevators and the United Farmers of Alberta. Files on the Hastings Townsite annexation and the site investigation for the Vancouver airport include correspondence and notes typed by Woodside in order to record the chronology of the events.

Subseries includes correspondence, reports, memos, briefs, notices and minutes of meetings relating to Pendakur's career as alderman. Many files highlight his special areas of interest including the waterfront, transportation, False Creek, Gastown, human rights and the P.N.E. Arranged alphabetically.

Blocks 42/52 development

Subseries consists of correspondence and reports re the 1967 proposal by Eaton's and the Fairview Corporation to develop Blocks 42 and 52 in the downtown area. Arranged by subject and chronologically within each subject.

Correspondence

This subseries includes only one piece of correspondence, from Major J. S. Matthews to Woodside thanking him for a recent donation of Woodside's records.
