Item is promotional material for "Belize - Rain Forest Expedition" (1995). This was a pilot for a television series for Discovery Channel. The series did not proceed. The video introduces Belize with shots of locals, then follows a group of scientists and archeologists into the Belize rainforest where they observe wildlife and discover Mayan ruins. Information about Belize, to supplement the narration, is interspersed at the bottom of the screen.

Baden Baden [Germany - raw footage]

Item is raw camera footage shot for "Return of the Cold Warriors" a half hour television documentary about the history and closing of the last Canadian Military base in Germany. Footage shows jets landing, flying, taxiing and taking off. Footage includes shots of other buildings and air hangars. Also buildings and traffic at night, Footage was transferred from film to video before transfer to the archives; sprocket holes can be seen at times. At times there is a ring of shadow around the outer rim of the frame.

Item contains raw footage shot for the documentary, "Everest - Climb for Hope." Video includes shots of traveling with pack animals, Sherpas playing a dice game, the Everest - Climb for Hope team at a planning meeting, some individual team member interviews, Tim's injured knee, Yaks carrying Tim and supplies out of the camp, the team at camp four, planning the moving of oxygen to the next camp, Everest views, the debris of an avalanche, shots of exhausted team members climbing down, and a farm village and villagers on the way down the mountain.

Item is "Everest - Climb for Hope" footage transferred from original 16mm camera film footage. Includes footage of yaks carrying packs and supplies for the "Everest Climb for Hope" team. Team members hike beside the yaks. Scenes of base camp, sherpas, a satellite dish, laundry hanging to dry, tents and tents covered in snow. Includes a scene of Peter cooking and enjoying smoking a pipe, prayer flags, men relaxing and doing thing around the camp including looking through a telescope, sorting equipment, packing, bread being prepared in the communal tent at base camp, snow being melted using a small stove hanging in someone's tent, a man attaching crampons to his boots, men hiking out of base camp through the snow with packs, anchoring spikes into the ice and snow and attaching ropes and carabiners, performing a rescue, or perhaps practicing a rescue [?], early morning hiking, mountain views, snow blowing off the mountain, interviews with Everest - Climb for Hope team members (silent), and a truck of supplies driving and getting unstuck on a very rough road near a river.

Everest - Climb for Hope team members walking along a road beside a river, past a small settlement, through mud, past an avalanche of rocks, includes shots of more rocks falling off the cliff onto the pathway, team members and Sherpas/porters following the first group through the danger area of falling rocks, team members pass another village and interact with local children, scenes of a river or stream being forged, packs being loaded onto a van, an immigration office on the road, Sherpas carry a large and heavy box up a steep path, Alan, an ex-American world-class gymnast carries the 250 lb box a few meters. Team members and their gear are assembled in a building, locals gather around at the Zhang Mu Hotel, negotiations are made with a translator to hire Sherpas to carry gear, some Chinese [?] officials can be seen, the line-up of those waiting for work hold on to each other to eliminate the ability for anyone to cut in line [?] or jump the queue, shots of the Sherpas with heavy packs walking away from the Zhang Mu Hotel and more negotiations with the translator near the truck where the supplies are being loaded. Tourism B.C. Marketplace Progam [Program] - Expo 86

Item is "Marketplace Program" produced for EXPO 86 and Tourism BC. Major exhibition in BC Pavilion for EXPO 86. Multi-screen laser disc interactive display. Laser discs were very new at this time and cost over $2500 each to manufacture. This laser disc was produced to be used with specially designed players that would allow for touch-screen interaction from visitors to the B.C. Pavilion. These machines no longer exist; to get an idea of what options were made available pause the playback to view what the touch-screen displays looked like.
Item includes visual vignettes featuring footage to represent various geographical areas of the province of British Columbia. Theme music plays in the background of the scenes; no dialogue. Brief written descriptions of each area of the province precede each section of footage. At 00:10:23 - 00:10:24 screen shots of all of the various touch screen menu screens appear - to see these please slow down the playback and pause for each. Starting at 00:10:26 the footage plays out that would have been associated and parsed out for the various selected menu choices. Film was a wildlife/educational piece presented by B.C. Hydro and narrated by Tommy Tompkins. Produced and edited by Michael Collier. Film features footage of swelling rivers, many different flora as well as wild animals, and their young, in their natural habitats. Wildlife featured include: moose, deer, beaver, squirrels, muskrats, geese, groundhogs, loons, osprey, fish, black bears, owls, raccoons, gyrfalcons, eagles, mountain goats, foxes, lynx, a lynx kitten, cougar kittens, marmots, and grizzly bears. This copy is in better shape than MI-275, and has unique introductory narration and footage as well as other editing differences throughout slightly changing the footage used as well as the narration.
