The fonds consists of personal papers, 1846-1940, including family records, a family portrait album, personal letters, private business correspondence and records pertaining to investments and business ventures; extensive records of ship's specifications and tests, material that passed through Captain Mowatt's hands when he worked for the C.P.R., 1900-1918; photographs of C.P.R. steamships; official C.P.R. correspondence, 1892-1924; papers, 1919-1923, relating to Captain Mowatt's duties as Port Warden with the Department of Marine and Fisheries at Vancouver; and printed works, 1839-1911.

Item is a copy of a ship plan for three unidentified ships made to the same hull design, most likely the original Empress of China, Empress of India and Empress of Asia, all built between 1890 and 1891. The drawing depicts a longitudinal section of the ship, as well as deck plans for the poop, promenade and forecastle decks; upper deck; main deck; and lower deck.
