Item is a documentary film documenting Vancouver street scenes and cityscapes as well as a variety of industrial activities. This films contains colour footage of a sea plane, mills and mining, shipbuilding, steel making, as well as Vancouver street scenes with people around Dunsmuir St. and the Georgia Hotel. The black and white portions of this film contain footage of Vancouver beach scenes.

PNE Parade - Start of the RCMP Musical Ride

Item is an amateur film documenting the 1958 Vancouver Pacific National Exhibition Parade and British Columbia scenery. The film begins with footage of floats in the P.N.E parade. Identified floats and performers include the train from Montreal to Port Moody 1886, New Westminster, Comox Valley, Sannich, Vancouver Fire Department, Fraser Expedition, Canadian Order of Foresters, The Moonlighters, Horseshoe Bay, and the P.N.E Minstrel Band. Businesses and buildings shown include Standard Stations, British American Oil Company, Canadian Pacific Railroad, Radio CKWX 1130, Hotel Vancouver, Georgia Hotel, the Provincial Courthouse, and Pacific Western Airlines. Footage also shows downtown street banners. The second half of the film includes footage of the RCMP riding onto Hastings Park racetrack in formation in front of an RCMP band being conducted and a crowd. Houses in the Hastings-Sunrise area to the east of Hastings Park are also shown.

Opening of 2099 Beach [Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation building]

Item is a documentary film documenting the opening of the Board of Parks and Public Recreation building at 2099 Beach Avenue as well as recreational activities and special events in Stanley Park. The film contains footage of the ribbon cutting ceremony with crowds in attendance as well as winter snow scenes with people, ducks and swans in the park. Other recreational activities documented include log rolling in a pool, diving, and poolside sunbathing. The film also documents the unveiling of the statue of Lord Stanley in Stanley Park and concludes with footage of a baby polar bear.

Spencer's parade

Item is an amateur film documenting the Spencer's Toy Parade staged by the Spencer's Department Store in Vancouver. Film documents floats and costumed marchers, and crowds watching the parade as it moves south on Dunsmuir Street past the Hotel Dunsmuir at 502 Dunsmuir Street.

Item is a film consisting of at least seven separate pieces of amateur film footage spliced together. Film includes black and white footage taken at Grouse Mountain in 1930 showing men and women skiing, a snowplough clearing snow, a dogsled, and a black bear cub playing with a dog. The remaining film footage is in colour, and includes George Thompson jumping obstacles on horseback in 1947; 1948 footage of the Thompson's champion horse Goldheart and two men riding in a chariot pulled by Goldheart and another horse; a large number of spectators sitting in stands to watch an unidentified event in West Vancouver in 1950; cabins and horses at Knox Lake in 1979; and the Thompson's house and gardens at 865 Wildwood Lane, West Vancouver in 1979 and 1980.

Minnekhada Ranch

Item is an amateur film documenting Mrs. E. W. Hamber with 8 guests horseback riding over obstacle course in the forest of the Hamber Minnekhada ranch in Coquitlam. Some of the guests posing full front on camera alongside Mrs. Hamber are Garleigh and Marjorie Greenwood, and Mayor L. B. Taylor. The film also shows footage of various farm animals, such as foals in a corral, sheep and fowl.

Item is raw footage shot for a one hour television network documentary featuring Canada's Military parachute team, the Sky hawks. Includes footage of a city skyline [Spokane, WA?], and the Sky hawk team members at an air show in the USA, an American flag is included in their show [Fairchild Air Force Base, Spokane, WA?]. Team members are filmed getting ready to board the plane, polishing their boots, folding a flag, checking their own and each others equipment, practicing their aerial routine on the ground, footage also includes a local news camera women, airshow crowds, the Sky hawks ground team, the Sky hawks performance, the airshow announcer can be heard narrating the show as the camera captures the show and the crowd. Snowbirds: Come fly with us [English]

Film was a theatrical short produced for the 20th Anniversary of the Canadian Forces Air Demonstration Squadron, The Snowbirds. Yaletown Productions obtained distribution for the film across Canada; it played in theatres as a short before the Demi Moore feature film "Mortal Thoughts" (1991).

Those magnificent Snowbirds - The first 20 years

Item is a one hour television network documentary featuring Canada's aerobatic air team, the Snowbirds. Narrated by Leslie Nielsen. The documentary begins by following the eight men trying out for the four spaces in the 1990 Snowbirds team, then discussing the history of aviation in Canada and the Canadian military, the majority of the film focuses on the training of the Snowbirds team and the outreach and shows they perform. Ending with the final show of the 20th anniversary season. Digital edited master (no supers). Version has blackout breaks for commercials. Tourism B.C. Marketplace Progam [Program] - Expo 86

Item is "Marketplace Program" produced for EXPO 86 and Tourism BC. Major exhibition in BC Pavilion for EXPO 86. Multi-screen laser disc interactive display. Laser discs were very new at this time and cost over $2500 each to manufacture. This laser disc was produced to be used with specially designed players that would allow for touch-screen interaction from visitors to the B.C. Pavilion. These machines no longer exist; to get an idea of what options were made available pause the playback to view what the touch-screen displays looked like.
Item includes visual vignettes featuring footage to represent various geographical areas of the province of British Columbia. Theme music plays in the background of the scenes; no dialogue. Brief written descriptions of each area of the province precede each section of footage. At 00:10:23 - 00:10:24 screen shots of all of the various touch screen menu screens appear - to see these please slow down the playback and pause for each. Starting at 00:10:26 the footage plays out that would have been associated and parsed out for the various selected menu choices. At 00:12:08-00:12:11 more screen shots of selections flash by, again slow or pause to view these fully. Starting at 00:12:12 more groupings of clips of British Columbia can be viewed. Footage features the City of Vancouver, and includes harbour views, the train in Stanley Park loading and unloading tourists as well as the train ride views; including some zoo animals, children at the petting zoo, Granville Island; especially the Public Market, False Creek Ferries, a view of the Granville Street bridge, the Burrard Street bridge and views from the Granville Street bridge looking downtown. Stanley Park railway

Item is a documentary film documenting the Stanley Park Miniature Railway and other recreational activities in the park. The b&w footage of this film documents the construction of the miniature railway including bulldozing of the land and building of the railway tracks. It also contains footage of a ceremony involving hammering in the last spike as well as footage of the train running along the tracks in full operation carrying passengers and arriving at a station filled with crowds of people waiting to take a ride. The colour footage of this film documents other recreational activities in the park such as people doing arts and crafts, archery, and the 19th Annual Sandbox Contest. Collingwood Park is also documented in the film with footage of children participating in a tug of war and high jump. There is also footage of an unidentified ceremony involving a musical band, flag raising and balloon releasing.

Item is an amateur film documenting the 1958 Vancouver Pacific National Exhibition Parade and British Columbia scenery. The film begins with footage probably taken from a Kettle Valley Railroad train going through the Okanagan. The film ends with footage of floats in the P.N.E parade. Identified floats and performers include Shell, White Spot, and the New Westminster Shrine Club General Band. Businesses shown include Oscar's, Standard Stations, British American Oil Company, Canadian Pacific Railroad, and Pacific Western Airlines.

Item is an amateur film documenting Mrs. E. W. Hamber at a beach accompanied by several female and male companions in bathing suits getting ready for a swim. The film also shows footage of sailboats on the ocean, a boy holding a dog and three unidentified women in riding costumes on horseback at a ranch (possibly Minnekhada Regional Park in Coquitlam, BC).

Governor General his excellency the Right Honourable the Earl of Bessborough, PC, GCMG, and her excellency the Countess of Bessborough visit Britannia Mines on Commodore E. W. Hamber's steam yacht "Vencedor" of the R. V. Y. C. Thursday Sept. 8th 1932

Item is a newsreel documenting the visit of Governor-General his excellency the Right Honourable the Earl of Bessborough, PC, GCMG, and her excellency the Countess of Bessborough with Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Hamber to the Britannia Mines. The film shows footage of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Hamber arriving at Ballantyne Pier; meeting with the members of the Vancouver Harbour Commission (President S. McClay, Commissioner J. B. Thomas, and Commissioner R. D. Williams); greeting his excellency the Right Honourable the Earl of Bessborough and her excellency the Countess of Bessborough; and boarding their yacht Vencedor; the Britannia Mines band and Mr. C. P. Browning, manager of the Britannia Mines, officially receiving the visiting party at the Britannia Mines piers; and the visiting party inspecting the concentration and machine shop at the Britannia Mines. The film also includes images of the Vancouver skyline and the BC coastline taken during the seavoyage to and from the Britannia Mines, an aerial views of Britannia Beach and Howe Sound, as well an official shot of the crew of the Vencedor yacht.

Item is an amateur film documenting sailing yacht racing. The sailing yacht with the white hull is Eric Hamber's 'Lady Van' that won the Lipton Cup in 1934. The film also shows footage of Mrs. E. W. Hamber full-front and together with several unidentified male and female companions ending a bathing party, boarding a vessel and chatting on deck.

Forest Fire - N.W. [Vancouver Civil] Strike - [Woodwards promotions]

Short films are spliced together on this reel. 00:02 - 01:34 shows a forest fire raging and being battled on the ground and from the air. Includes footage of a sawmill. 01:35 - 03:26 depicts workers, with signs, in front of Vancouver City Hall, on strike. Most of the signs read: Negotiate Now: End Civil Strike. 03:27 - 04:22 consists of animated advertisements for Woodward's department store.

Gastown riot

Film consist of raw footage of the riot in Gastown. Includes scenes of police on foot and on horseback, people being taken into custody, under cover police assisting in putting people into the police vans, and skirmishes between protestors and police. Police brutality. Quite violent.

Includes footage of the Canadian Forces Base Moose Jaw, S.K., an interview with Lieutenant-General [Sutherland?] about the Snowbirds team maturing now that they have been around for twenty years, their role and future. Also includes footage taken in Moose Jaw, S.K. of the gathered dignitaries, families, media, and alumni for the final performance of the 1990 Snowbirds team as well as scenes of the show itself and the audience enjoying the demonstration.

Item is raw footage for the documentary "Everest - Climb for Hope." Includes additional footage of the fundraising dinner event with speeches and the audience. Along with a few others Dr. Peter Austen, a Climb for Hope team member, speaks to the crowd.

Everest - tape 1

Item is original camera tape footage taken for the "Everest - Climb for hope" documentary. Contains footage of Katmandu street scenes, Everest - Climb for Hope team members, markets, street sellers, pedestrians, traffic, dogs and people sleeping, a brief scene at a restaurant. Everest - Climb for Hope team members walking along a road beside a river, past a small settlement, through mud, past an avalanche of rocks, includes shots of more rocks falling off the cliff onto the pathway, team members and Sherpas/porters following the first group through the danger area of falling rocks, team members pass another village and interact with local children, scenes of a river or stream being forged, packs being loaded onto a van, an immigration office on the road, Sherpas carry a large and heavy box up a steep path, Alan, an ex-American world-class gymnast carries the 250 lb box a few meters. Team members and their gear are assembled in a building, locals gather around at the Zhang Mu Hotel, negotiations are made with a translator to hire Sherpas to carry gear, some Chinese [?] officials can be seen, the line-up of those waiting for work hold on to each other to eliminate the ability for anyone to cut in line [?] or jump the queue, shots of the Sherpas with heavy packs walking away from the Zhang Mu Hotel and more negotiations with the translator near the truck where the supplies are being loaded. See MI-459 for a better quality version of the majority of this footage.

Film consists of raw footage shot at Expo 86; shows: pavilions, performers, people watching, the Canada Pavilion, the Vancouver Trade and Convention Centre, the Plaza of Nations, neon signs at the Imax theatre, cowgirls dancing, the view from a monorail car, the monorail, and crowds waiting to get on the monorail, inside the Egypt pavilion, people getting splashed riding the Cariboo Log Chute roller coaster, line-ups, crowds, people riding the Parachute Drop ride, and the view from the drop ride. Silent film.

Film consists of raw footage taken at Expo86 and includes scenes of the Minolta Space Drop ride, food carts, crowds, the gondolas and the view from the gondola ride, people walking on the seawall, RCMP officers, the RCMP musical ride (outdoor venue, crowds seated on grass), the floating McDonalds (and the McDonalds Tidy Tug picking up floating garbage), a beer garden, music, pavilion signs, Expo 86 grounds and the outside of several national and provincial pavilions.
