Cecil Akrigg collection

Postcards depict battle scenes, headquarters, and war materiel in Europe, many of which relate to activities of Canadian and possibly British Columbian regiments. The postcards were produced by the Vancouver firm Crosby & Bissell, 306 Tower Building, Vancouver.

Ruby Evelyn Kluckner collection

Collection consists of materials relating to the creation and development of the Health Centre for Children at Vancouver General Hospital, and of children's health care in general. Included are news and other media clippings, correspondence, brochures and pamphlets, Ms. Kluckner's recollections of the development of the Health Centre, photographs, biographical information on Dr. Donald Paterson and Dr. Geoffrey C. F. Robinson, a book "Sick Children: Diagnosis and Treatment," written by Dr. Donald Paterson, and a collection of Paterson family Christmas cards, designed by the Dr.'s wife, Dorothy Paterson.

Collection consists of research notes compiled by Davies into the history of the meat packing industry and abbattoirs in the Greater Vancouver area, and a photocopy of an article entitled, "Railway Recollections of a B.C. Sheep Rancher, by John (Jack) K. Moilliet, and published in Canadian Rail (May-June 2006).

[Construction records for 3439 West 11th Avenue]

Collected records relating to the construction of 3439 West 11th Avenue. In 1929, Susannah Jane Dods, a recently widowed mother of five children, undertook the construction of a family home at 3439 West 11th Avenue, carefully documenting all expenditures associated with the construction.

Records include original building permit, June 1, 1929; sewer hook-up application; invoices, statements, delivery notices, quotations, etc. including the following materials and service suppliers: West Point Hardware, F.N. Hamilton Plumbing, Rat Portage Lumber Co., Henry Darling and Son Ltd. (paint), Harris Paint and Wallpaper Company Limited, Wm. N. O'Neil Company Ltd., E. H. Shockley, Banks Electric, Inlaid Floor Co., Mackie & Co., B.C. Contractors Supply Co. Ltd. Also includes one photograph of the house, property tax statements for 1930-1933, 1941, 1946; home fuel bills from 1947; Federal Department of Trasport-issued Private Receiving Station licences, 1943-1945; as well as reminiscences of the Dods family and home prepared by Susannah Dods' daughter, Meryl M. Lynch.

Collection consists of materials related to Loretta Woodcock's involvement with the Coalition of Progressive Electors (COPE) and includes news clippings, correspondence, civic election campaign materials, 'COPE Voice' newsletters, press and media releases, a presentation to Vancouver Board of Parks by Loretta Woodcock regarding whales and dolphins in captivity, platform and policy documents, inauguration programs, budget items, publications featuring articles on Loretta Woodcock, publications of labour organizations, reference and research materials, etc.

The Jack Bird Story

Collection consists of sixteen letters written by Jack Bird while living in the Vancouver area, 1951-1962. The letters are addressed to Miss Ramayeo Yeomans of Brandon, Manitoba, who arranged the letters and accompanying photographs into a binder which she titled "The Jack Bird Story." Subjects relating to Vancouver covered in the letters include Stanley Park and its features, such as the 'Ladybug' tour bus, Shakespeare Garden, and Lost Lagoon; the depression of the 1930s; royal visits in 1951 and 1958; the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games; an eyewitness account of the aftermath of the Second Narrows Bridge collapse in 1958; visits of Hal Holbrook and Gladys Aylward; Pauline Johnson; museum and art gallery exhibits; as well as Bird's befriending of Herbert Emerson Wilson and his work in Wilson's crime museum. The letters also document Bird's experiences while living on Burrard Inlet in North Burnaby, in Pender Harbour and Van Ada on Texada Island, as well as the wildlife, climate and topography of these places. Some of Bird's activities that are described are his attempt to build a large raft out of rescued logs, and fishing and livering dogfish on a scow at Scottie Bay, Lasqueti Island and Blind Bay, British Columbia. Also documented in the letters are Bird's recollections of his youth in Estevan, Saskatchewan and Brandon, Manitoba; his travels throughout the world and in Victoria, Ocean Falls, Prince Rupert, the Rockies, Whitehorse, the Yukon and Alaska; and his experiences fighting in France and living in England during World War II.
Photographs depict Jack Bird, the building of his raft, his house on Burrard Inlet, his boat, his world travels, his paintings and books, and his experience fishing and livering dogfish on a scow at Scottie Bay and Blind Bay.
Also included are published articles and other accompanying contextual and biographical information relating to Jack Bird and to Ramayeo Yeomans, as well as a postcard of the Baha'i Temple in Wilmette, Illinois.

Item includes the following chapters: "Art Deco Identifying Characteristics", "Art Moderne Identifying Characteristics", and chapters on Vancouver's local areas which provide detailed information on Vancouver's art deco buildings.

B.C. Environmental Council

The file consists of board of directors lists and minutes, 1970 and 1973, publications including B.C. Environmental News, press releases, correspondence, membership lists 1972 - 73, annual meeting minutes, news-clippings, Pollution and the Law (Vancouver People's Law School) publication and the constitution of the Federated Environmental Associations, Jan. 1973 collected by Irving Stowe who was an early board member.

Vancouver lights (A soliloquy)

File consists of a copy of the handwritten score of: "Vancouver lights (a soliloquy) for chorus and orchestra in honour of the City of Vancouver British Columbia, music by Jean Coulthard, text lines taken from the poem by Earle Birney, Vancouver Lights (1941), July 30th 1980". The piece was composed as a response to being named a Freeman of the City of Vancouver in 1978 and presented to City Council on July 21, 1981.

File consists of photographs taken at a meeting with politicians [or possibly an all-candidates meeting ahead of an election] that was attended by members of the Canadian Gay Activists Alliance (CGAA) as well as Gay Alliance Towards Equality (GATE) members. Identified individuals include Dick Rulens, Ian McKenzie, Roeddy Green, Fred Gilbertson and Maurice Flood and the politican Rosemary Brown.

Walter Warner collection

Series consists of a collection of official radio survey charts showing the weekly top tracks and albums in Vancouver. Collection includes charts from radio stations CKWX, 1959-1961, C-FUN, 1964-1967, and CKLG, 1964-1975. The collection is not entirely complete for each year.

Marco Polo scrapbooks

File consists of two scrapbooks showcasing the former Marco Polo Restaurant and Nightclub, located at 90 East Pender Street, which operated as a club and later as styled as a "Chinese smorgasbord" dining restaurant. The scrapbooks contain news clippings, menus, programs, business cards, tickets, coupons, correspondence, catering orders as well as a list of performers, 1964-1968. Also included are photographs showing exterior and interior views of the building, entertainers and musicians, people dining, Chinese New Year celebrations, owners and staff, as well as street scenes in Chinatown. One scrapbook includes material relating to the relocation of the Marco Polo to 83 Chesterfield Street in North Vancouver, 1983-1984.

Elizabeth Pastuck collection

Collection consists of recipes and food handling publications, 'from Bea Wright's Kitchen' and miscellaneous similar pamphlets by Mona Brun, produced by Woodward's Limited, and 'Edith Adams' produced by the Vancouver Sun newspaper. Also included is a Vancouver Sun news clipping on the history of the fictional character Edith Adams.

John Raven collection

The collection consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings, drawings, photographs, and other memorabilia sent to John Raven by his grandfather Charles Busteed Fowler. The material documents Major C. B. Fowler's activities including military, royal visits, Happier Old Age Club, Irish Society, and the Vancouver Walking Club.
