[Spencer] family

Item is an amateur film documenting the Spencer children and their grandfather R.V. Winch playing at Jericho Beach in Vancouver. Hangars of the Royal Canadian Air Force Base are visible and float planes. The film also documents a gathering of people and automobiles in a wooded area. An accompanying handwritten note reads "John, Victor, Grandpa at beach" and "Groups of people and old cars (a lot of Chinese people)".

Item is a documentary film documenting Vancouver's parks in 1940. This film names Vancouver the "Playground City of the North West" and contains footage of Stanley Park, Connaught Park, Douglas Park, Devonshire Park, Shaughnessy Park, Memorial West Park, Memorial South Park, Almond Park, Hastings Community Park, Grandview Park, Trout Lake, Queen Elizabeth Park, Tatlow Park, Thornton Park, Hadden Park, Burrard View Park, Maple Grove Park, Sunset Nursery, Victory Square Park, Beaver Lake Park as well as Vancouver's beaches including English Bay, Kitsilano Beach, Second Beach, Spanish Banks and Locarno Beach. The film also features Stanley Park including footage of typical scenes at the entrance and causeway, the Administration Offices of the parks system, primeval forest scenes, blossom time in the rockeries and gardens, Lost Lagoon, Prospect Point, Lions Gate Bridge, the totem poles and a view of Stanley park from afar. As well, the film documents the locations of the free swimming classes provided by Vancouver Sun newspaper at Lumberman's Arch Pool, Kitsilano Pool, New Brighton Pool and Maple Grove Pool. Vancouver's playgrounds are also documented with footage of children playing in the playgrounds at Memorial South Playground, Norquay Playground, Robson Playground and McLean Playground. In addition, this film documents a variety of recreational activities that take place in Vancouver's parks including swimming, sunbathing, boating, diving, folk dancing, tennis, golfing (at Fraser Golf Course), walking, lawn bowling, horse-shoe pitching, model yacht racing, cricket, playing games, enjoying the park's fauna and flora (in both summer and autumn), picnicking and having BBQs. Special events such as symphonies, Dress-up Day, the Annual Sandbox Contest, and the annual Soap-box Derby are also documented.

Tourism B.C. Marketplace Progam [Program] - Expo 86

Item is "Marketplace Program" produced for EXPO 86 and Tourism BC. Major exhibition in BC Pavilion for EXPO 86. Multi-screen laser disc interactive display. Laser discs were very new at this time and cost over $2500 each to manufacture. This laser disc was produced to be used with specially designed players that would allow for touch-screen interaction from visitors to the B.C. Pavilion. These machines no longer exist; to get an idea of what options were made available pause the playback to view what the touch-screen displays looked like.
Item includes visual vignettes featuring footage to represent various geographical areas of the province of British Columbia. Theme music plays in the background of the scenes; no dialogue. Brief written descriptions of each area of the province precede each section of footage. At 00:10:23 - 00:10:24 screen shots of all of the various touch screen menu screens appear - to see these please slow down the playback and pause for each. Starting at 00:10:26 the footage plays out that would have been associated and parsed out for the various selected menu choices. At 00:12:08-00:12:11 more screen shots of selections flash by, again slow or pause to view these fully. Starting at 00:12:12 more groupings of clips of British Columbia can be viewed. Item is a film showing the Gee How Oak Tin Benevolent Association convention at the Chicago chapter, firecrackers and lion dancers in front of the Chicago Chinese Benevolent Association, indoor museum scenes (possibly in Chicago), exterior and parking lot of the Vancouver Museum and the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre, an outdoor barbecue with games at a park with the sign "Chin-ook Fish and Game Club".

Item is a short independent film written and directed by Mike Collier. Photography by Mike Collier and Vic Thomas. Assistance in the making of the film provided by Alpha Cine, Intermedia, and Telesound. Film shows a man sleeping and dreaming of driving nails into various objects or simply smashing them with a hammer. When he wakes up he leaves home with his lunch bucket and then quickly returns for his hammer. Music soundtrack.

Item is a film containing part 3 of We Drivers. The film opens with the Inter-title: "Having said goodbye to the cowboys, we go to the Arrow Lakes." Film contains footage showing the sternwheeler S.S. "Minto", Nakusp, scenes of lakes and towns, a steamboat, Arrow Park, Carrolls Landing, Burton, Penticton, beach scenes and the return to Vancouver. Vancouver honeymoon

Film is a travelogue showcasing scenery, attractions and industry in the Vancouver area. Film contains general and aerial views of Vancouver, plus sequences of the harbour, Vancouver International Airport, Stanley Park, UBC, the Vancouver International Festival and the PNE. Industry is depicted through shots of a sawmill, a fish cannery, a foundry and a shipyard (where the vessel Yukon is launched). Water sports, golf and skiing at Grouse Mountain are shown, as well as Queen Elizabeth Park, Capilano Suspension Bridge, the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Granville Street at night and a White Spot drive-in. Item is an amateur film containing footage of Sam and Margaret Magoffin in Havana, Cuba and includes scenes at the beach, swimming pool, hotel and Gran Casino Nacional.

Item is an amateur film showing people with dogs in the snow and Sam and Margaret Magoffin with her parents, the Boalts, having a picnic in the woods, at the Capilano Suspension Bridge, and then at the beach where the men change a tire on the car. Also included in the film are scenes taken at home with the women knitting and sewing, Margaret and her parents exiting the Devonshire Hotel and entering a car with the courthouse in the background, people waving from the back of a train, and Sam and Margaret standing by a window.

Item is an amateur film documenting Mrs. E. W. Hamber at a beach accompanied by several female and male companions in bathing suits getting ready for a swim. The film also shows footage of sailboats on the ocean, a boy holding a dog and three unidentified women in riding costumes on horseback at a ranch (possibly Minnekhada Regional Park in Coquitlam, BC).

English Bay Yacht Races & Cruise Buccaneer Bay - May 24/34

Item is an amateur film documenting sailing yacht racing. The sailing yacht with the white hull is Eric Hamber's 'Lady Van' that won the Lipton Cup in 1934. The film also shows footage of Mrs. E. W. Hamber full-front and together with several unidentified male and female companions ending a bathing party, boarding a vessel and chatting on deck.

Item is a film containing footage of the Chin family collecting driftwood at the beach, views from aboard the ferry and of the Tsawwassen ferry terminal, a gathering of the Gee How Oak Tin association in the Chin Wing Chun building, exterior shots of storefronts on the 500 block of Main street, vacation footage in Yoho Park, Lake Louise and Roger's Pass and scenes in the Alpine Aqua canning factory.

Item is a family film shot between 1952 and 1953. Footage includes the wedding party and guests of Ann and Peter Cherniavsky arriving and mingling outside of the church, Peter and Ann Cherniavsky picnicking and site seeing, and baby portraits being taken of Alix Cherniavsky (daughter of Peter and Ann). Also shown is a trip to Ozama, Dominican Republic including swimming scenes at the beach and pool, a Christmas party and locals singing, dancing and fishing.

Wire

Item is a short independent film filmed, directed and edited by Michael Collier. The three actors are: Dennis MacDonald, Gary Killeen and Dave Ponsart. Film depicts three men who find some insulated wire in the ocean [at wreck beach], drag it into a pile, hitchhike to downtown Vancouver, and then travel around downtown dragging the wire on the sidewalk behind them. Eventually the wire is left to one man who drags it on his own for a while until he leaves it in the car of a man from whom he hitched a ride. Popular music soundtrack.

Stanley Park highlights

Item is a documentary film documenting Stanley Park including recreational activities and special events in the park. The film contains footage of traffic entering Stanley Park, Lions Gate Bridge viewed from the park, totem poles, as well as scenes of trees and flower gardens that show the park in bloom. The film documents people engaging in a variety of the park?s recreational activities as well such as horse back riding, walking, playing cricket, purchasing ice-cream from the ice-cream stand, golfing, swimming and playing in the water at the beach. The film also contains footage of track and field sports taking place at Brockton Oval including shot-put, discus, running races, high jumping, and pole-jumping. In addition, the film documents a visit to the park by Princess Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, as well as people building the sea wall. Children are also featured in the park playing on the playground equipment, riding the Stanley Park Miniature Railway, and interacting with the animals at the petting zoo. Various animals in Stanley Park and the zoo are also documented including swans, ducks, raccoons, monkeys, sea lions, penguins, sea otters and a peacock.
