Downtown and West End buildings inventory photographs

Series consists of images which systematically and comprehensively document the whole of Vancouver's central commercial area, along the waterfront from Cardero to Carrall, narrowing southward to False Creek (Thurlow to Richards at the southernmost point). Photographed in August 1981 (as an internship or work experience project) to provide a reference resource in the preparation for the Vancouver Coreplan. Images are generally 45 degree views of buildings, often from block corners. Arranged in a devised image block numbering scheme (individual image numbers reflect that organization).

Series consists of photographs of the Yip Sang family and friends and their activities, as well as some photographs collected by the family. Includes photographs of the Wing Sang Building, Canton Alley, the Chinese Student's Athletic Association soccer team, the Chinese Empire Reform Association, the Kuo Min Tang [Kuomintang] Chinese Nationalist League of Canada, and the opening of the Toishan (Toi Shan) District High School in Kwon Tung (Guangdong) Province, China. Photographs also relate to family events, such as weddings, Yip Sang's birthday celebrations, and Yip Sang's funeral.

File consists of three maps of Vancouver: an index map to the sections, an index map to District Lots, and 62 section sheets drawn and revised between ca. 1935 and 1945. Some time between 1946 and 1951 these maps were compiled and reproduced by the City Engineer's Office.

The 62 sectional plates are divided into three groups: the "Old City of Vancouver," Point Grey and South Vancouver. Maps show streets and roads, blocks, lots, legal descriptions, railways, parks, schools, hospital, cemetery, golf courses, retirement homes, and some businesses.

File consists of three maps of Vancouver: an index to the sectional map sheets, a plan of District Lots in Vancouver, and a sectional map in 62 sheets. The sectional map sheets show streets and roads, blocks, lots, legal descriptions, railways, parks, schools, hospital, cemetery, golf courses, retirement homes, and some businesses.

File consists of three maps, including one sectional maps. The maps include an index to the sections, an index to District Lots, and one sectional map in 61 sections. The sections have been annotated with colour coding to show tax sale property for sale, property with no water, street widening and drainage, replotting, reserved land for schools, reserved land for parks, sundry land, capital assets not including schools and parks, schools, and parks. An index to the colour coding was hand-drawn on the verso of the sheet with the index to District Lots.

File consists of two index maps and eighty-five sectional maps of Vancouver, revised between 1965 and 1970. Sectional maps include streets, blocks, lots, legal descriptions, railways, parks, schools, hospitals, cemetery, golf courses, retirement homes, public buildings, First Nations reserves and some businesses. Maps were compiled by the City Engineer's Office and supplied by the Property and Insurance Office of the City of Vancouver. Maps for sections 68 and 91 were not available at the time of issue.

Plan of Vancouver, 1889 [fire map]

Item is a 1936 black and white reproduction of the 1889 Dakin fire insurance map. Item contains a legend and key plan. Map shows city block numbers, subdivision lot numbers, water pipes, sewer pipes, street names, and buildings.

Harding the man

Album is a commerative album of the visit of Warren G. Harding, President of the United States, to Vancouver in 1923.

Middle Arm Bridge and 800 block Thurlow slides

File consists of four photographs of the Middle Arm Bridge taken on May 31, 1957 and five photographs of road construction on the 800 block of Thurlow Street, showing CustomColor Laboratories Ltd. at 819 Thurlow Street, circa 1957.

Fashion parades, February 1960 and undated slides

File consists of twelve photographs of a February 1960 fashion parade in Chinatown attended by Mayor A.T. Alsbury and Miss Vancouver Chinatown 1960 Donna Yee, as well as two photographs of a parade in Chinatown, likely taken in 1960.

File consists of photographs of Wing Hing Dry Goods taken just prior to the company's permanent closure.
