Cut-out, full body portraits of young men in scholar's robes were combined with the engraved background to create the original composite photograph: this is a photographic copy. The only identified individual is W.J. Bowser LL.B, (bearded man, seated third to the right of stairs).

The photographs are from several different countries as photographer's markings from Saint John (N.B.), Moncton (N.B.), Vancouver (B.C.), Boston (Mass.), and Liverpool (England) are visible on some of the cards.
