Bing Crosby - Philco Radio Time

Part contains a recording of a network broadcast of Bing Crosby's radio show during his October 1948 visit to Vancouver. The sponsor was Philco Radio and Television Corp. and the broadcaster was the American Broadcasting Company. BC Archives created recording by copying Parts 1, 2 and 3 from two original audio discs.

Interview with George W. Maddams

Item is an audio reel containing a recording of an oral history interview conducted by Sue Baptie of George W. Maddams. George Maddams discusses growing up in Vancouver; father taking up property at False Creek, 1880s, and speculating in in land, 1908; family interest in music; played clarinet and later saxophone; attended Mount Pleasant School, 1903, and Alexandra School, 1908; joined musicians union, 1910; played in Vancouver theatres and on CNR ships sailing up the coast to Alaska and across the Pacific. Details of his career playing on the ships "Prince Rupert", "Southern Cross", "Princess Louise" and "Empress of Canada" during the years 1926-1939.

Orpheum opening ceremony
