Redevelopment plan for Jericho Department of National Defence lands

Item is a map showing proposed redevelopment of portions of former Department of National Defence lands in the Jericho area. The map shows existing city parks, D.N.D. lands to be taken over for parks and recreation, city owned land, single family land, town houses, garden apartments and town houses and proposed new roads. The map appears to have been removed from a report.

Series consists of index cards containing compiled information about fatal traffic accidents in the City of Vancouver. Information recorded on the cards includes date, time, location and type of accident. Some cards also mention persons involved in the accident. There are two sets of cards, one organized chronologically, and one organized by street name.

Series comprises records from the 1975-1980 Central Registry Files of the Engineering Department, relating to its administration, general services and involvement in community planning. The documents include minutes and related materials of meetings of the Engineering Department and committees, organizational charts, reports, correspondence and notes to the file. The files are arranged in their original order.

Vancouver bridge records

Series consists of a variety of records relating to the planning, designing, and opening of Vancouver's bridges. Included are plans for the Connaught Bridge (1910) and the Burrard Street Bridge (1930-1931), Granville Street Bridge (1952), photographs of the Granville Street Bridge (1954), and motion picture films on the building of the Granville Street Bridge (1954) and the Cambie Street Bridge (1986). Filing units arranged chronologically by start date.

Transportation Planning Engineer Expo 86 files

Series consists of correspondence, informal reports, City reports, consultants' reports, notes to file, minutes of the Transportation Working Group and the Expo Traffic Operations Group, and architectural drawings of sites, relating to transportation and traffic planning activities of committees of Provincial, Expo, and City officials for Expo 86. Textual records arranged chronologically; oversize maps and architectural drawings are a separate chronological sequence.

Engineering Department slide collection

Series consists of images (slides) taken in support of Engineering Department work performed in the 1970s and 1980s. Major projects undertaken in this time that are documented in this series include the construction of the Expo Line (Skytrain), the construction and opening of the 1985 Cambie Street Bridge, the cleanup of the shoreline around False Creek and building of the Seawall, and the conversion of Granville Mall to pedestrian use.

Other images in this series show work at the Vancouver Landfill in Burns Bog (Delta, BC), construction and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, sewers, waterworks, lighting, and parks throughout the city, and Engineering equipment and facilities.

Individual image titles are taken from the database used by the Engineering department to organize and catalogue the images. The titles tend to relate to projects and activities, and are not always reflective of the content of the images. 991 images were not identified in this database and are currently untitled. Images in this series were taken by City employee Alan (Al) Ingram.

Series also includes one subseries of textual records (subseries 1 - Supplementary paperwork) used to organize the images.

Series consists of selected photographs and negatives which relate to Council presentations and internal City events. Events photographed include: Council presentations to retirees, Civic Merit awards, Freedom of the City, Citizen Peace awards, 25 years service awards, Inaugural Council, Mayor and Council photographs, visiting dignitaries, Engineering retirement parties, plaque honoring employees who gave their lives at work presentation, Tree Canada Foundation presentation, International Day to Eliminate Racial Discrimination, Civic recognitions and civic awards. Engineering staff Jack Bell, Roger Kwan, Barb Stetski, and Jeannette Black served as City photographers and attended these events at the request of the City Clerk or department managers. Arranged chronologically.
