Vancouver Jubilee

Item is a promotional film showing the Diamond Jubilee celebration events, a brief history of Vancouver and concludes with footage of Vancouver after 1945. The film shows historical photographs of Vancouver and focuses on various aspects of development in Vancouver including industry, media, communications, transportation, power plants, city planning, city governance, tourism and architecture.

The film was commissioned by the Vancouver Jubilee Publicity Committee and later sponsored by the British Columbia Electric Company Ltd.

Item is a videocassette showing a dramatized story of a group of youth dealing with the subjects of sexuality, HIV/AIDS and discrimination. People appearing in acting roles include: Peter Stebbings, Stephen Fanning, Veena Sood, Matt Hill, Dinah Gaston, Michael Andaluz, Sasha [Moisenovitch], Barbara Jeanne Harrison, David Hooper, Jacques Lalonde and Catherine Lough. People appearing as themselves include: David Tuff, Zachary Longboy, Rick Waynes, Dinetia Johnson, Robin Blaser and David Farwell.
The video was presented by the Vancouver Health Department and funded by the Federal Centre for AIDS, Protection Branch, Health and Welfare Canada.

Eric's video

Item is a videocassette containing the program entitled Eric's Video. The video deals with discrimination against people with HIV and AIDS and discrimination based on sexuality. The video consists of a series of interviews with Rick Waynes, Dinetia Johnson, David, Kenna Fair, Carolyn, Zachery Longboy, Lucy Falkner and Judy Lynne. The interviews were conducted by Michael Andaluz and Peter Stebbings.
Funding and support for the video was provided by Vancouver Health Department, the Health Promotion Directorate Health Services Branch, Health and Welfare Canada through the National AIDS Education Contribution Program. The National Film Board provided facilities assistance.

Out of Bounds : A Race to the End of the Earth] [with breaks, master]

Item is a one hour television documentary, narrated by Leslie Nielsen, featuring two Canadian grandmothers in an air race from New Jersey, USA, to the southern tip of South America and back. The story follows the pilots through the trials, dangers, and joys of the race over the course of almost three weeks. Of the nine planes that started, only six complete the race. Written by Barry Gray and Moyra Rodger, director of photograph, Gary Elmer, editors, Tim Reed and Paul Wong, on-line editor, Bruce Smith, music by Hal Beckett, production coordinator Lupe Korbut, unit manager, Sarah MacDonald, graphic designer Erwin Chiong, sound editor, Gary Morgan, Chyron, Liz Horner, produced by Yaletown Productions Inc. in association with CBC British Columbia, with the participation of British Columbia Film and the Cable Production Fund.

Hamber full-front and together with several unidentified male and female companions ending a bathing party, boarding a vessel and chatting on deck.

Item is an organizational record film documenting firefighters tending to a car crash on Clark Drive and an apartment building fire. The first segment shows a totalled car, with firefighters searching for victims in the burnt car and coroners coming to take the bodies away. Also includes an interview with the first police officer on the scene, Robert Clooney. The second segment shows firefighters fighting an apartment building fire by aerial ladder and performing first aid for victims, including one injured firefigher. A police boat is stationed in the water in front of the building.

[GranTree Furniture Rental fire, fisheries fire, and apartment building fire]

Item is an organizational record film documenting the GranTree Furniture Rental fire, the fire at Lion's Gate Fisheries, Tullock Western fisheries, and Central Native Fisherman's Co-operative, and an apartment building fire in the West End. The GranTree Furniture Rental segment shows surrounding storefronts of Hertz Rental Cars and Denny's Restaurant (probably downtown), as well as the interior of the furniture store with firefighters moving sofas, rugs, etc. The second segment shows firefighters fighting the warehouse fires at the Central Native Fisherman's Co-operative, Lion's Gate Fisheries, and Tullock Western Fisheries, including a shot of dead fish strewn about. The third segment shows firefighters fighting a fire at a West End apartment building, coroners removing the bodies, and an interview with a resident, Frank Toshack.

For Twenty Cents a Day

Item is a documentary film documenting work shortages during the Depression of the 1930s and the attempts to deal with the unemployed, in particular young men. The film discusses the establishment of relief camps and projects, where men were paid twenty cents per day; the founding of organizations such as the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF), Workers' Unity League, and Relief Camp Workers' Union; general unionization and protest of the unemployed, including the On To Ottawa Trek, Regina Riot, sit-in strike from May to June 1938 at the Vancouver Main Post Office, Vancouver Art Gallery and Hotel Georgia, and the resulting Bloody Sunday of June 19. Archival footage and photographs complement the narration. The film includes interviews with Syd Thompson, a participant in the On To Ottawa Trek and later a leader of the IWA Vancouver local, Steve Brodie, leader of the Vancouver sit-in, and poet Dorothy Livesay.
