Howe Sound - Burrard Inlet

Item is a topographic map in two sections showing British Columbia north of Burrard Inlet to Britannia Creek in the north, and from Howe Sound in the west to Indian Arm in the east. Map shows lakes, streams and other natural features; roads, railways, communication lines, cities and other built features; and land, timber, and mineral surveys by number.

Southwestern districts

Part contains a commercial and visitors map of the southwestern land districts of British Columbia, encompassing Vancouver Island and the mainland from Seymour Inlet in the northwest to Black Pines in the northeast, extending south to Chiwaukum, Washington. Primary map shows settlements, government agent offices, mining and sub-mining recording offices, game reserves, customs posts, hospitals, ferries, campsites, golf courses, canneries, commercial air harbours, lighthouses, radio stations, motor boat refill stations, power sites, railways, roadways, trails, telegraph and telephone lines, steamship routes, topographic contour lines, and locations of falls and rapids. South Western Districts [of British Columbia]

Item is a map with four accompanying inset maps. The area depicted on the main map, entitled "Commercial and Visitors Map" is the area of southwestern British Columbia, encompassing most of Vancouver Island, the Coast and New Westminster land districts, and portions of the Kamloops and Lillooet land districts. The northern end of Vancouver Island is depicted in Inset maps A and A1, inset map B depicts the north-western portion of Washington State, and a small index map of North America shows the continental location of the area depicted by the main map.

The information included in the map is: physical features, including topography; boundaries of land districts and divisions; transportation routes; logging status; dominant wildlife species; and proposed and existing economic activity in various areas.

Powell Lake

Item is a map of the southwest coast of British Columbia from Cortes Island to Alta Lake and Chilko Lake to the northern tip of Gabriola Island. Map shows timber leases, Crown granted land, parks, municipalities, power lines, roads, railways, elevation of lakes and some mountains, hospitals, schools and canneries.

Item is a photographic copy of a portion of topographical map which has been annotated to show ascent and possibly surveying activities in the mountains surrounding the headwaters of Jervis Inlet 1929 to 1941. The map contains an inset photograph dated Aug. 13, 1941, possibly taken from Mt. George Edwards, showing the Dawn Glacier, Mt. Tinniswood, Duane Peak, Mt. Casement and Mt. Albert.

University Endowment Lands, District Lot 140, group 1, New Westminster District

Item is a map showing proposed land subdivision of the University Endowment Lands and includes a zoning legend. The university buildings and surrounding streets are also included. Notes at the top of the map read, " the design of the subdivision, except with respect to the portion actually subdivided, is tentative" and "the contour elevations are on the City of Vancouver datum which is approximately 100 feet below high water."

Howe Sound - Burrard Inlet

Item is a topographical map of the municipalities surrounding Howe Sound and Burrard Inlet. Municipal boundaries, roads and other transportation infrastructure, and radio stations are also included. The Greater Vancouver water supply areas and waterways are shown along with pipe lines, power lines and telegraph lines.

Map of portion New Westminster District

Item is a heavily-amended copy of a map illustrating intended land settlement and subdivision in 1877 in the future sites of Vancouver, Burnaby and the North Shore, from an area bordering on English Bay to an area bordering on North Arm. Also shown are bodies of water, Hastings & Granville Road, and the settlements of Hastings and Granville. Annotations by J.S. Matthews in 1954 made on the copy are tracings in white pen and darkening the background to improve the copy.

Map of portion New Westminster District

Item is an annotated tracing of a map showing the future sites of Vancouver, Burnaby and the North Shore from an area bordering on English Bay to an area bordering on North Arm. Traced over by J.S. Matthews in 1954, it illustrates intended land settlement and subdivision in 1877. Also shown are bodies of water, Hastings & Granville Road, and the settlements of Hastings and Granville. Annotations are an introductory note by Matthews in August 1954 titled "Before Greater Vancouver." Enclosed with the map are four letters between J.S. Matthews and W.H. Hutchinson, Chief of the Geographic Division of the B.C. Survey and Mapping Branch of the Department of Lands and Forests, in 1954 concerning the map's provenance and Matthew's efforts to increase the legibility of copies of the original map.
