World In The City - roll I

Film consists of raw footage shot at Expo 86; includes shots of the 'China Gate,' now on Pender St. in Vancouver's Chinatown; it was gifted to the city after Expo 86 by the People's Republic of China. The film also shows various means of transportation: the gondolas, the monorail, and the skytrain; the Expo 86 grounds; including the information centre, and the BC pavilion, several other pavilions, musical performers, and a mime on a unicycle. Silent film.

Includes footage of Canadian military airplanes taxing, taking off, and flying; the airbase in Moose Jaw, S.K., downtown Moose Jaw, S.K., an interview with Crew Chief Daniel Bergerson about the Snowbirds ground crew, and a shot of the 431 AD Squadron Snowbirds sign. Includes footage of the Canadian Forces Base Moose Jaw, S.K., an interview with Lieutenant-General [Sutherland?] about the Snowbirds team maturing now that they have been around for twenty years, their role and future. Also includes footage taken in Moose Jaw, S.K. of the gathered dignitaries, families, media, and alumni for the final performance of the 1990 Snowbirds team as well as scenes of the show itself and the audience enjoying the demonstration.

Item is raw footage shot for a one hour television network documentary featuring Canada's military parachute team, the Sky hawks. Includes footage of the Sunchild O'Chises School sign, the Sky hawk team entering the school with an RCMP Officer, a few spectators watch, in the school gym the Sky hawks talk to school children and show them an anti-drugs video, after the video the Sky hawks demonstrate how the parachutes work and interact with the children in smaller groups, an interview with Captain Mark A. regarding the qualities necessary to be a part of the Sky hawks team, public relations is an important factor, Mark also talks about the Sky hawks performance schedule, in the background Sky hawks team members are loading an airplane, tape ends with close-up shots of the men loading the airplane. Includes footage of military drills, inspection, and men packing snowshoes along with other equipment, a shot of the "Airborne Pathfinder" logo, a lecture, demonstration, and lesson on proper airborne emergency procedures, practice jumps in a gym with simulated parachute apparatus, outdoor training; men put on practice parachute gear. Short films are spliced together on this reel. 00:02 - 01:34 shows a forest fire raging and being battled on the ground and from the air. Includes footage of a sawmill. 01:35 - 03:26 depicts workers, with signs, in front of Vancouver City Hall, on strike. Most of the signs read: Negotiate Now: End Civil Strike. 03:27 - 04:22 consists of animated advertisements for Woodward's department store.

This item consists of video transfers of film footage shot at Expo 86. The raw footage was transferred to video and edited on tape into a finished production. According to the donor this is the original of the final production with sound and image combined. "Vancouver - Focus on Expo 86" was released August 1986 as a video postcard. Film featuring highlights of Expo 86 . Includes royal visit, highlights of USA, USSR, China, GM, Canada, BC, Folklife pavillions. Film consists of raw footage shot at Expo 86; shows: pavilions, performers, people watching, the Canada Pavilion, the Vancouver Trade and Convention Centre, the Plaza of Nations, neon signs at the Imax theatre, cowgirls dancing, the view from a monorail car, the monorail, and crowds waiting to get on the monorail, inside the Egypt pavilion, people getting splashed riding the Cariboo Log Chute roller coaster, line-ups, crowds, people riding the Parachute Drop ride, and the view from the drop ride. Silent film.

Includes raw footage taken at Expo 86; includes shots of Prince Charles and Lady Diana, Princess of Wales, with Brian Mulroney visiting Vancouver and the Expo site. Captures scenes of the Snowbirds performing for Expo crowds. An RCMP band and mounted RCMP. Silent film.

Item is raw "Everest - Climb for Hope" footage transferred from original 16mm camera film footage. Includes scenes of individual team member interviews, team members climbing and hiking, scenery, team members getting medical checkups, Sherpas packing, airplanes landing and a 'Welcome to Kathmandu' sign and scenes of Kathmandu.

Item is processed footage for the never completed film which was tentatively titled "Neon Madman" or "Electric City." Film has been colour manipulated. Footage includes scenes of downtown Vancouver, neon signs, traffic, pedestrians, and store window displays. Some scenes of Granville Street looking South toward Eatons, footage also shows the 'Bowmac' neon sign and many others.

Item is raw camera footage shot for "Return of the Cold Warriors" a half hour television documentary about the history and closing of the last Canadian Military base in Germany. Footage shows jets landing, flying, taxiing and taking off. Footage includes shots of other buildings and air hangars. Also buildings and traffic at night, Footage was transferred from film to video before transfer to the archives; sprocket holes can be seen at times. At times there is a ring of shadow around the outer rim of the frame.
