Chinese Detention Shed at Vancouver

Caption with the photograph: Contrary to common belief the C.P.R. did not import Chinese labor to build the Railway. The Chinese were imported by contractor Andrew Onderdonk, building through B.C. under contract to the Canadian Government. The C.P.R. took over the line later.

Collected photographs

Series contains photographs relating to several major construction projects for the Canadian Pacific Railway and miscellaneous photographs relating to the Price family and C.P.R. buildings. The series consists of five bound volumes of construction progress photographs and a 187 individual photographs covering a wide variety of subjects related to the Canadian Pacific Railway. Each bound volume of photographs contains progress photographs taken from a particular vantage point and collocated according site and chronology. Photograph subjects include the construction of the third CPR station, extension of Pier "A - B", construction of Pier "D", extension of Pier "D", construciton of Pier "B/C", construction of the Burrard St. viaduct, and the construction of the Sleeping, Dining, and Parlour Car Dept. Storage warehouse.
