The fonds consists of business records of the Banfield family's insurance companies, papers from Banfield's university days, and papers relating to his volunteer activities, especially with the Vancouver General Hospital. There are also scrapbooks, photographs and clippings. Photographs depict family life, travels and Banfield's public life as a Rotarian, a civic official and a trustee at Vancouver General Hospital.

Business records

Series consists of deeds, minutes, correspondence, reports, financial records, agreements, payroll and tax returns relating to the business activities of William Orson Banfield including the Banfield, Gunther & Black Limited (renamed Banfield, Black and Banfield Limited in 1925), a real estate and insurance company Banfield took over from his father, and the Norwich Agencies which was set up by Orson Banfield himself in 1934. Series also includes the business activities of Banfield's father, John J. Banfield, including the Banfield, Gunther & Black Limited, Vancouver Coal Mining and Land Company, and Commercial Trust Loan Company Limited.

Civic and personal matters

Series consists of correspondence, reports and news clippings relating to William Orson Banfield's participation in various civic organizations including the Rotary Club, B. C. Hospital Association and the Non-Partisan Association. Series also includes Banfield's personal correspondence.

Publications relating to Vancouver General Hospital

Series mainly consists of Vancouver General Hospital's publications relating to the management of and expansions of the hospital. Series also includes publications from other institutions including the University of British Columbia and the Government of British Columbia.

Series consists of examination papers, essays and theses, and certificates relating to William Orson Banfield's academic performance at King Edward High School and the University of British Columbia. Series also includes certificates presented to Banfield by various educational institutions.

Series consists of reports, publications, financial records, correspondence and proposals from various committees and working groups of the Vancouver General Hospital. Series was gathered by William Orson Banfield when he served as a trustee for the hospital from 1942 to 1971, including 4 years as chairman from 1957. Series covers major VGH's expansions including the opening of the Centennial Pavilion in 1959 and the Banfield Pavilion in 1972. Series also relates to the development of VGH's services, facilities, planning, management systems, and the history of the hospital.
