File contains checklists on each building studied containing the headings "site survey", "architectural analysis", and "historical analysis". Included are check lists on a few buildings for which no file exists. These are: Strathcona School (592 East Pender Street) and Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church (154 East 10th Avenue).

City Council investigation transcripts, exhibits, and reports

Series consists of transcripts, exhibits, reports, and a small amount of correspondence relating to investigations carried out at the instigation of Council, either by a City body (as a preliminary probe), or by a provincial judge or commission (according to the Vancouver Incorporation Act). Much of this series consists of original transcripts and reports. Arranged alphabetically by investigation title.

Water pipe inquiry

Files contain transcript of proceedings (original? unsigned) relating to an inquiry held before City Council on the fabrication of water pipe (Seymour Creek Pipe Supply contract), and the question as to whether it was being manufactured to the specifications.

Health Department investigation

File contains report (carbon copy with original signatures) prepared by a special committee of aldermen appointed by Council "to hold a departmental investigation into the statements made by certain employees of the Civic Health Department, submitted in the form of a petition, to the effect that inefficiency and lack of co-operation are prevalent in the said department". Report stamped "Read in Council Meeting Feb 25 1924".

Police investigation

File contains report of Provincial Court justice R. S. Lennie (23 Aug. 1928, copy) further to Council resolutions requesting an enquiry into all matters of the Police Department and correspondence including letters from A. H. MacNeill (KC) and G. G. McGeer (KC), both barristers involved in the investigation (originals).

Relief Department enquiry - Tucker and Delves affidavits

File contains affidavits of Wilfred A. Tucker (6 of them, all signed 24 Sept. 1935, member of Internal Audit Staff of the City) and Mary E. Delves (signed 26 Nov. 1935, a former stenographer in the Relief Department of the City). All affidavits are originals.

Forum enquiry

File contains bound report (original signed) of the Forum Board of Enquiry, to the Special Committee which appointed them, reporting on an investigation into the damage done to the Forum Building on 21 Jan. 1935. Report has blueprints and photographs appended.

Police investigation

File contains report of W. A. Macdonald (KC) to Council (bound original) on "his investigation into all the allegations contained in the report of Wilfred A. Tucker, dated November 5th, 1936".

Cod fish enquiry

File contains minutes of proceedings of "Cod Fish Enquiry" (26 Apr.-12 May 1938, originals/carbon copies, unsigned) carried out by a Special Committee of Council to determine whether there was sufficient evidence to warrant an investigation under the Combines Investigation Act. Also included is a report to Council on findings (mimeographed).

Police investigation

File contains report (carbon copy, unsigned) of the Police Committee of Council on the conduct of the Chief of Police and constables.

Social Planning Department administrative and operational subject files

Series contains subject files documenting the following: administration of the Social Planning Department, the Community Development unit (1971-1974), the Carnegie Centre and the Civic Theatres unit (1978-1984); local area planning (carried out primarily by the Planning Department with input from Social Planning); social policy issues relating to refugees, English language problems, youth services, prostitution, alcoholism, etc.; participation in the social and cultural planning for Expo 86; and multi-government social policy development. A variety of community organizations and their operations are represented.
