The City of Vancouver Archives library collection is meant to complement our archival holdings. The collection's primary purpose is to support research at the Archives by staff and patrons. It contains books on British Columbia history especially those that focus on the history of the Greater Vancouver area and the people who live and work there. Special topics in the collection include books on forestry and fishing and other books that explore the economic history of the City of Vancouver. The collection also includes current Archival practical and academic resources as well as more than five hundred monographs collected and annotated by the first City Archivist, Major James Skitt Matthews.

Collection consists of handbills, leaflets, newsletters, pamphlets, posters, news clippings, correspondence, and some meeting materials including minutes, agendas, etc., The material documents Mr. Hiebert's involvements in local, national, and international activism causes, including the peace and anti-war movements, women's rights and access to abortion, the environment, free trade, labour unions, international solidarity, anti-racism, anti-facsism, etc.

Films also include footage of downtown Prince Rupert; family, friends, and social activities; Vancouver area scenery and attractions, including Grouse Mountain, Capilano Suspension Bridge, a parade downtown, a military parade and medals ceremony at Victory Square, and a rodeo at Hastings Park; Vancouver Fire Department vehicles; the Victoria, B.C. inner harbour; a dog show; a trip to Cuba; the 1930 Portland Rose Festival parade; the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles; as well as footage of the Magoffins’ home “Rockhaven,” its construction, and their golden retrievers. Goold family films consist of one film showing a childrens' performance and individuals exiting a church after a christening, and one film containing footage of a family trip to eastern Canada, including a visit to Expo '67 in Montreal, and various tourist attractions in South Dakota and Wyoming.

The control of immigration of Asians into Canada has a long history in British Columbia. This certificate notes that "it is not an admission, that the party to whom it is issued, was ever legally admitted into Canada ...".
