The video contains interviews and archival footage of Bill Richardson, Margo Dunn, Ellen Woodsworth, Esther Phillips, Jamie Lee Hamilton, Rob Joyce, Don Hann, Maurice Flood, Pierre Elliot Trudeau, Sarah Davidson, Mary-Woo Sims, Heather Kitching, Jim Deva, Svend Robinson, Tim Stevenson, Ted Northe, Gordon Price, Janine Fuller, Gareth Kirby, Angus Praught, Dennis Dahl, Garry Penny, Jane Rule, Nym Hughes, Libby Davies. South Florida Prism telephone conference

Item is a videocassette containing footage of a phone interview with the co-chairs of the South Florida Pride Committee Mark Canterbury and Bob Vernacky from Ft. Lauderdale. The interview was done for Prism (television program). The interview questions are not audible as they were asked over the phone from Vancouver. Malcolm Crane is most likely the interviewer.

UTV News at Six

Item is a videotape containing a recording of a U News at Six broadcast about the 1993 Pride Festival. Reporter Kate Corcoran interviews Robb Atkinson about commemorating Malcolm Crane and attendees about their opinions of Pride and the festivities.

Parade on Pender Street and dance performances

Item is a film showing a parade on Pender Street with people dancing and walking with banners, as well as a scene with a group posing for photographs. The second part of the film shows dance performances on an indoor stage. Writing on box suggests the performances are by the Strathcona Folk Dance group and a dance group visiting from China.

1991 - Year of the sheep (ram), Chinese New Year - Parade, Vancouver, B.C.

Item is an amateur home movie of the 1991 Chinese New Year’s parade in Vancouver. It includes footage of the parade from East Pender Street outside the Chinese Cultural Centre and from Keefer Street just outside the entrance to the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Gardens. Also included is footage of vendors and tables inside the Chinese Cultural Centre, scenes of families inside the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Gardens, primarily inside the main pavilion, a view of the water and railings, and through the moon doorway.

The parade footage contains a variety of traditional Chinese elements, such as lion dancers, Chinese dragons, firecrackers, flags, dancing, music, and costumes. Some of the identifiable groups in the parade are: Cheerleaders from Steveston Secondary School, Children from J. W. Sexsmith Elementary School, Dancers from Strathcona Chinese Dance Co., the Freddy Fudd[pucker] band, Boy Scouts and Girl Guides of Canada, St. John’s Ambulance Cadets, Tibet Lama Kung-Fu, and the Western Canada Chinese Martial Arts Association.

Item is a film containing highlights of British Columbia's centennial year in Vancouver. Includes shots of an antique car parade, a tall ship at dock, naval vessels, street decorations in Vancouver, Chinese Freemasons parade (with drill team, dragon dance, etc.), a powwow, horse racing at Exhibition Park, PNE parade, and the last of the region's interurban streetcars. Film also includes footage showing the aftermath of the Second Narrows Bridge collapse.

Item is an amateur film beginning with scenic footage of a fountain taken during the Magoffin’s trip to Cuba, followed by footage of Sam and Margaret Magoffin walking on the grounds of and taking tea on the terrace of a large house, possibly in West Vancouver. Interspersed in this footage are images showing lions in a caged pen and men shooting rifles. The film also includes footage of people swimming in and lounging around a large swimming pool and the Magoffins and others relaxing in front of a hotel and visiting with a baby. Also included is footage of the 1930 Portland Rose Festival parade, including floats for the Portland Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club, Richfield Oil (Charles Lindbergh theme), First National Bank, Multnomah County, Japan, Claude Neon Products, Jantzen, and Wonder Bread.

Shriners Parade '51

Item is a home movie depicting a Shriner parade. The camera person stands in the crowd while Shriner men march past in regiments and bands or ride on car floats. Hastings Street and the Patricia Hotel are identifiable.

Personal - [Br--?] 1925 - Vancouver 1926 - Prince George - Prince Rupert

Item is an amateur film beginning with footage of a man playing with dogs; wild horses running; Margaret Magoffin driving a car; Sam Magoffin, Margaret and various people and dogs standing on the front stairs of a house; and Sam and three men exiting the S.S. Magoffin & Co. Railway Contractors Tie Department building (possibly in Prince George).

The film also includes footage of Prince Rupert, B.C., including the Prince Rupert Hotel and Sam and Margaret Magoffin on Sixth Avenue with several of the downtown buildings in the background. Also included is footage taken along the waterfront and from aboard the S.S. Prince Rupert, as well as views of the city taken from a high vantage point. Buildings shown in this footage include the fire hall and elevator.

Also contained in the film is footage of a parade in Vancouver taken from a bird’s eye viewpoint. The parade includes footage of mounties on horses, sailors, a pipe band, clowns, animals, and many floats, including floats for Point Grey, the City of Vancouver, the Loyal Order of Moose, Burns Shamrock Brand Products, Vancouver Ice Cream, and a stampede. The film also includes several minutes of footage of a rodeo at Hastings Park, including bronco and bull riding and chuckwagon racing activities. The film also shows Sam and Margaret with other people in front of the Court House and having a picnic on Grouse Mountain. Also included is footage of a military parade by Victory Square, a military review, and a medals ceremony; Mayor L.D. Taylor is shown in attendance at this event.

Poppsie England Wood Family

Item is a film made up of several films that have been spliced together. The film documents the Wood family’s trip to England and contains footage of the steamship journey, the Queen’s Guard parading, a war memorial, St. James’ Park, Buckingham Palace, the Thames, horse races, family scenes, a church, and a wedding. Film also documents locations and events in Vancouver, including the exterior and interior of Wood’s Jewellery Store (Arthur Wood & Co., 2511 Main Street), family gatherings at a house, possibly the Wood family home at 1656 Robson Street, and a troop of cavalry riding in dress uniforms. The stock date years of the film are in the following order: 1926, 1931, 1929, 1931 and 1932.

Dragon Parade 1958

Item is an amateur film of the 1958 Chinatown Dragon Parade. The film includes views of spectators lined up along the parade route, buildings and signs for businesses along Pender Street, and cars and groups participating in the parade. Footage includes many shots of men in a large dragon costume, the Vancouver Fire Department Band, and the Chinese Freemasons and Chinese Community School floats.

Item is an amateur film of the Chinatown Parade, likely taken in 1960. The film includes views of Pender Street and spectators lined up along the parade route, and cars and groups participating in the parade, possibly including Miss Chinatown and pageant runner-ups.

Royal visit #2

Item is a film which contains some of Douglas Scott's footage of the royal visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in May of 1939. The film begins with the intertitle "Departure, May Thirty-first," with shots of the HMCS Prince Robert; "The Veterans are here in Force," followed by footage of soldiers marching in dress uniform, the royals arriving in a car, and King George VI inspecting soldiers. The royals then make their way to the ocean liner RMS Empress of Britain, where they then wave to the crowd from an upper tier of the vessel as the ship departs. The film ends with the intertitles "The Straits of Juan de Fuca ... In the foreground Canada ... in the background the towering Olympic Range in the United States ... two great nations living together in peace and Amity," and "We leave their majesties steaming Eastward, back to their family at the Heart of the Empire ... while Canadians from the Atlantic to Pacific unite in loyalty and affection for Our Sailor King and his Gracious Consort."

Hong Kong - George V silver jubilee parade, miscellaneous

Item is an amateur film from Douglas Scott's time living in Hong Kong which captures a parade which celebrates King George V's Silver Jubilee (as read on banners in the parade). Various groups go down the street, including dragon dances, children in ornate dress carried on litters, people wearing masks, various floats, and musicians, as crowds of Hong Kong residents and expatriates watch. Subsequent footage includes locals working near the docks; Margaret and her mother at the Scott house with various animals; boats on the water; and a tram in Hong Kong.

Victoria - Government House, royal visit footage, and soldiers departing

Item is a film which contains some of Douglas Scott's footage of the royal visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth to Victoria, British Columbia, in May of 1939.
